Just curious if you can upgrade a panerai 029m to use a 2893 gmt movement. I know it's a thinner movement but if the tube is big enough, it could theoretically allow for it. Has anyone tried this?

Although I don't foresee any immediate plans to do this, I was curious because this is the only way I thought this super rep could be even more super lol

the short answer is no, the 029's are 2836 powered and have a dial to stem offset of 2.25mm. The 2892 has a dial to stem offset of 1.5mm so the stem will not align if you swap movements. You can shim the dial away from the rehaut in the case to make up the difference but it would be noticeable. The best option is to find one of the cases setup for the 2892 in the first place, not very common at the moment I know...

The answer is yes you can..There are a couple of people that have done this swap...you just either need a gen set of hands or a davidsen gmt hand as the movement posts are different sizes.

Hi airking
Since you have two replies very different, I advise you, in case you have not a definitive reply, contacting by PM the Watchsmiths in the PCTeam: Wiz, goin or Dmuit (Domi). Tell them that ALE is sending you.

Most of the time you can replace a 2836 GMT with a 2893, just need compatible hands.

thanks for the advice guys! i guess its worth trying one day. wiz, when you say compatible hands, do you mean that the gmt hands are not compatible or all the hands (hour, minute, second as well)?

This is something I am interested in trying out too. I'm just planning the parts list / checking at the moment. Any advice on the hands appreciated.
Thanks
