well i saw a post over the geek with a link to a thread aobut the pam 318 movement and i am really shocked.

for those who dont know

The pam 318 is the new york boutique limited edition that I think retails for about 6500$. only 150 made

the 318 isnt cosc certified and has a low beat movement.

but looks just like the pam 005- with a different caseback and movement
the movement is a base 6497 that cost 170$

heres a pic of the gen 318 opened up. this pic is taken from this thread
let me know what you guys think

Wow I bet the people that bought the gen were pretty dissapointed if or when they find that out. It just goes to show you how much money that is actually put into some watches. Me personally I don't see how some of the gen watches are that much better than some of the replicas on here just my .02

Shocking tbh, just makes me appreciate my 005k more now, all I need now is that movement, a eta polished Cp, and a 318 cb, and we have a super rep.

Panerai didn't even have the decency to use a decorated 6497 movement... WTF !?! This is a rip off

$200 to machine the case? Did you see the youtube of the how it's made? It's completely automated. Sure, I know they have to pay for the capital equipment but it's probably similar to the CNC mill the Chinese guys are using to make the SS cases on the reps. No way that's value for money. $5000 for QC and marketing?

Dear Panerai,

You've seriously got to be kidding, right?

Nice to know we are spending our money well.

Richemont Group is really milking Panerai.

Well the 16610 used to cost Rolex $600 to make and sold for 5.5k . . .
Point taken tho, at least it has a decent MVT for the bux.

Remember guys, brand ambassadors, fancy catalogues, sporting sponsorships, racing yachts and fancy product launches do not come cheap. As of 1998 42% of the retail cost of a Jaguar car was advertising and promotion cost. Same with panerai, you are paying for the name.

Funny thing here is that the rep is as likely as not to be a better timekeeper than the gen. The unfunny thing would be paying 6.5k for that. There are a lot of unhappy folk over at Paneristi.

A few months ago we saw as devaluing the line Ferrari. Those who did not understand the message now I hope you understand now. More technology provides Seiko watches with quartz.
