Hey guys,

I have a Calatrava 5227 (SS) en route and I want to put a nice strap on it. I was leaning towards an OEM black shiny alligator until I came across this: http://www.camillefournet.com/en/leather-strap-in-shiny-black-square-scaled-alligator

It looks to be identical with the Patek OEM and as far as I know these guys produce straps for PP.

Anyhow, I would love to find out what you think. Is this worth the cost, or should shop around more for an OEM one.

Cheers,

Camille Fournet straps are some of the finest straps made. Extremely high quality and it is said that they do make OEM straps for many of the top Swiss brands. I do not know if they contract with PP.

They do. When you order your strap at Paris' Patek Salon, they send the order to Camille Fournet who makes all their straps.
The only difference is that if you order via Patek, they will do their own QC check on top of Camille Fournet's, and if they are happy
with the strap they add their own logo.
If you order at Camille Fournet, you will have to do the QC by yourself (but you get less leverage to refuse the strap for a minor issue)
and you don't get the Patek Logo,.. but the price is lower! ;-). Oh, and the delay is much shorter!

Honestly, I have done both ways, both with equal satisfaction!

Awesome! I think I can live with one QC and no PP stamp. After all it's all about the quality of craftsmanship and material. The strap is advertised as a 3.5mm, do you reckon it will work with deployant, or strictly tang buckle?

I have two Camille Fournet straps for my two 5227's, one is in black for the silver watch and one is in dark brown for the rose gold watch. They are the nicest straps I own by far. The craftsmanship is outstanding. Also, the quick release spring bars help :)

They are pricey though..

Thanks for the feedback, the readymade ones seem to be a decent at 220 euro, considering how much an OEM one is. I think I am ready to pull the trigger.

Did you go the fully custom route? Also do you have the straps on a tang buckle or deployant? Also does 19/16 fit nicely with the 5227 ( I decided on a miyota version.

With all the options similar to what Patek chooses, I think the total was like 270€, while Patek was asking 310€.
so the difference was no longer so large...

That is surprisingly close, I haven't asked an AD yet, but I would imagine in the UK it will be a lot more expensive. Which county was this estimate from?

Paris, France.
Obviously with the two shops some 500 yards apart from each other, Patek can not charge you for shipping costs from Camille Fournet. ;-)
Honestly, for Patek straps, both solutions are very similar for me, and both are of equivalent value to my eyes..

Camille fournet also does straps for JLC, and I have used them directly several times for my gen JLC as the choice is more extensive this way. (JLC is a bit limited)
If you are lucky to come over here and visit their shop, I would highly recommend giving them your business as the quality of service and advice is top level!

I ordered the stock strap but XL length. Mine is on tang buckle like the gen. 19/16 is a perfect fit for this watch.

Here are some photos I took of the straps, they are exactly like OEM quality and makes this watch look even more awesome! One of the best part is the quick release spring bars that are just like the gen, makes it a breeze to install the straps!

Thanks everyone for sharing! Will also like to order one for my 5227 on the way to me.

I've ordered the 5227 with deployment clasp, will i need to order the same 19/16? Also, do i still order the same length or will need to apply an offset in my measurement?

I've been considering this also and am torn. A couple of decent pre-owned options would be appreciated ^^
