Buying a watch from a TD - when to pay

I exchanged PMs with a Trusted Dealer. He said the model I was interested in was available. I said, "This is my first rep purchase. What do I do?"

The TD said to go to his website and order the watch. I did so. The order was confirmed. The CC payment was confirmed.

Then I got an email: watch not available. How about a different model.

Now I'm waiting for a refund/credit.

Is this the typical procedure for ordering from a TD?

I would not have paid until he verified stock. This is usually done by an e-mail prior to placing the order. I think choosing another might be less hassle. A refund should be easier with credit card than Westrn union where there are fees.

Good luck and keep us updated.

No but might due to a few possibilities that this happen.

Normal procedure ordering from TD.

1. Send email to TD for stock enquiry.
2. TD check and reply you regarding stock availabilty.
3. Order confirm
4. Payment sent.
5. QC photos received
6. Ok for shipping.
7. Watch receive and enjoy.

Who is the TD? Why don't you just go for another watch that you like? Because i believe that the amount they refund you does not include CC transaction fee(if any).

The poster did pm the TD to confirm availability, was told it was and then was told it was unavailable after he'd already paid.

This practice should not be condoned.

My own first buy wasn't so great either.
I pm'ed the TD to confirm availability of the item. A no date sub.
Was told it was in stock and given payment instructions.
payment sent...
QC pictures were sent...
The item was a no date sub with a watch face that said "oyster perpetual date.
I refused purchase and was asked to select another model, as all the no date subs this TD could get were apparently marked in the same manner.
I selected another choice and am waiting for it to arrive now, although it was not my first choice. I didn't want to leave the TD hanging though.
If this happens again, I will likely just ask for a refund.

IMHO, TD's should update their sites to reflect currently available stock, or sent QC pics before payment and be honest in their descriptions and dealings, so that we as customers can know what we're paying for before money exchanges hands.

Watcheden?

I don't know about the OP, but no, not in my case.
I'm hesitant to name them as I realize that they are at the mercy of the factory, just as we are.
I just wish I had known the item wasn't exactly as it was pictured on their site.
Other than having to ask if my item was shipped and for tracking, the communication, exchange of item and service was quite acceptable.
