I’m struggling to thread this rubber into the butterfly opening. Is there a smart way to do this or is the strap too thick?

The straps used on the deployment need to be very thin at the tip.. you could force it in but may have issues closing the clasp.

Pop the spring pin out that holds the thumbnail on, position the thumbnail in the correct hole and then reattach the pin. The two sleeves that keep the bar of the clasp centered are a PITA but you'll figure them out after a few drops...

Deploy straps and pin tang style buckle straps are completely different thickness. The tang style rubber will not work on a deploy buckle

Not necessary.
I just wanted to know the thickness of your strap. All the last arrivals to me have to thin 2.2mm
thick. Mine, from old reserves, has 3.5 mm.

I haven't measured mine yet but no workaround was working.
I ended up bending opening up, making it taller, for the tongue to slip through. I also heated the rubber with a lighter making it more elastic.
REP buckle might have been too flat from the factory.

I will post some pics later
