Hi

I have tried the search button, but with no luck

WatchEden sell a rep BSO (Not a SOH) on a stainless strap (item no. 23587, cant put a link as i am at work and rep sites are barred here) with a blue face. I really like the look of this watch they stock over the SOSF and also the BCE. I like how the bezel seems to sit 'flat' as opposed to the SOSF and BCE which seem to slope down and away from the face. I also like the chronos on the face as well.

Here is a pic
photo-2.jpg

However...

I cant seem to find any pictures of anyone on RWI with this version of the BSO. I can only find instances of people with a SOH or SOSF.

Is this a true gen copy or a fantasy watch? I really like it and have all but decided this will be my next rep.

Sorry if I am just crap using the search function, but i did try.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Guru, thats a shame tho!

I really like this watch, the face, polished SS case/strap, size etc.

They have got another very similar watch, without sec @ 6, but the case and strap is brushed and i prefered the polished finish.

I dont know what to do, cos the average Joe wont know its a fantasy watch, only someone who knows there watches and TBH i dont circulate with any one else who has any interest in watches at all, so i probably wouldnt get called on it.

Is owning a fantasy watch frowned upon?

I don't think so, wear what you like. I would not buy that watch because I believe it has a quartz movement. But a lot of people like to have quartz watches.

Thanks again, that has settled my fears, i think that is my next purchase then.

I am still really new to all this, so have not got any real concerns over something being Quartz etc as i havent got the knowledge about what all that means to let it worry me, lol.

I am still struggling to understand what all the different movements mean/are and also to appreciate the difference between quartz and anything else.

I wont ask questions in here cos i know i can just as easily use the search function.

Thanks again.

Actually its not a fantasy watch, but a quartz copy of the SuperOcean Chrono model.

Not very accurate, as you will notice that the crowngaurds are wrong, subdial spacing and function is wrong, and it has the wrong bracelet. Personally I'd wait for a 7750 version of this to be released. I would highly recommend the blue dialed V3 Skyland before wasting money on this cheap rep.

Would the rep I have made refereance to here have a sweeping second hand?

Personally I prefer Quartz when it comes to Chrono's, generally they keep better time than the auto's and have a habit of lasting longer with minimal care (not sure how true that is in reps but I have a 20 year old quartz I paid £2 for and it still keeps better time than any auto watch I've ever owned). On the chrono's the second hand is too small for me to care whether it sweeps or not.

Without the Chrono I go for the 21 jewel to get the sweeping second hand. These choices of course are because I don't have the budget to get high quality reps. However my main rep will be a high quality one either the BCE graphite, the SA or the Skyland. As far as fantasy goes, if I like the look of the watch then that's all that counts because I buy watches soley for my own pleasure.

I see, so let me get this straight then.

On a watch such as the one i have posted here, where it looks like there is a small second dial at 6, the large hand that would normally be the second hand, what wouyld this do?

Would this just act toward the chrono functions?

If the small dial at 6 is what would be the second hand, I cant say i would notice too much whether it swept or not tbh.

Sorry for being stupid but I am new to all this.

The third hand on the main dial on a Chrono is usually the seconds of the Chronograph. This starts moving when you push the button at the 2 o clock position. The chrono minutes and hours then are counted on 2 of the sub dials whilst the third sub dial is your normal second hand. When you push the button at 2 o clock a second time the big second hand and the 2 chrono sub dials stop, push it again and they start again. Push the button at the 4 o clock position and the chrono hands all reset. The disadvantage with the quartz is that the big second hand won't sweep either but of course you'll only notice that when using the chrono which will still do its job.

Based on everything I have read here (and please bear in mind with everything in my post that I'm a rep noob) you are probably better off with a quartz on this particular watch because the seconds sub dial is at the 6 o clock position (that said an auto would probably have the seconds dial more accurately placed). As far as I can tell the auto movements are designed with the seconds at 9 and so extra gears have to be put in to transfer the seconds to the 6 o clock position and these watches have a very high failure rate. With a quartz I do not believe the seconds at 6 is a probem based on all of the posts I've read here.

Fortunately there are a lot of rep experts here so if what I say is inaccurate someone will come along and correct me for both of our benefits.

OK, thanks for all your replies.

So, I know Andrew has said the Super Ocean I have mentioned isnt worth it and I should not buy it,

But.....

I want a nice polished strap/case Breitling with a blue face and contrasting chronos and saw the Super Ocean and fell in love with it, the price isnt too bad either.

Then i realised it wasnt a very good rep (true to gen) and had a 'smaller' case at 42.5mm and ended up going off it slightly.

Then I found a Super Avenger (also from Watch Eden) which looks absolutely stunning, very close to gen, blue face, silver chronos and a good size at 49mm (i like chunky watches) it ticks all the boxes however it costs nearly 3 times as much!

I don't want someone to 'tell' me what to do, that would be silly, I just wondered what other people would do??

All comments welcome

if you want a blue rep then go with the Super Avenger, I have it in black and it is a great watch.
It feels big but it takes 5h and you do not want to put 44 mm watches on your wrist.
get it with the ocean racer strap and you have a nice big watch and it is very comfy on your arm.
Very good rep out of the box. Good lume as well.

here is my in black

The SA is a monster watch though. Be prepared for it.

Yeah, I went into an AD and tried one on just to make sure. I have pretty chunky wrists (probbaly closing in on 8") and it looked fine.

I am reading a lot posts about them on here and I am reading a lot about the 'thin' straps, however they look chunky enough in all the pictures I can find, how 'thin' are we talking?

I will be keeping it on the SS bracelet as I like the look (will probably get the SOH chrono on the Ocean Racer strap sometime in the future, as I tried this on in the AD too)

So, the SA is winning so far then.

Any more thoughts? Can you get a Skyland Avenger with silver/white chronos?
