Blancpain Fifty Fathoms water leakage/damage (not water resistant???)

So i was happily taking a shower with my BP FF (for the first time) thinking a little water wouldn't do the watch any harm. But after I checked the watch after my shower I found out there was a significant amount of water swirling around the sides of the watch, damaging the dial. The pictures I am about to show later are after I have waited for it to dry. You can see the water damage on the sides of the dial and the existing water droplet still sticking to the underside of the glass.:bull_head:

Will be returning this to the TD. Just sharing my experience here and curious whether anyone has had the same :p4gtr:

I'm not sure that the TDs guarantee that these reps are water proof. Interested to hear what he says.

well in all their descriptions they do indicate >50m water resistant

I don't really try it out on my reps -> first time im taking a shower with one, with crown screwed tight and everything.

Just surprised that water got in so easily ~~

Also a warning to other FF owners

I own one too. Thanks for the heads up but I've never showered with a watch on in my life.

TD's advertise a lot of things that are not necessarily so. I would never put a rep in water unless I knew for certain that it was sealed and tested properly and not by a dealer.

I think it is silly on your part to do such a thing. I don't care what the TDs say about waterproof. If it is not tested don't trust it.

you should at least be able to expect basic splashproofing. If I were caught in a downpour for a short period of time, I think the same thing would happen. The watch was not even submerged to say the least

Will take note of that for my next reps. I actually have a bunch of them already (PAMs, JLCs etc...)

They are fake Chinese watchs at a fraction of the cost of a real one. It should not have happened but it doesn't supersize me.

Ah alright :S sigh guess I got caught up in too much marketing talk and hype. They are fakes after all~

Anyway let this be a note of caution to all the current owners of the FF

Hope the TD is able to resolve my situation. He did a pretty good job the last time my PAM had a problem after it stopped working (or was that another TD? cant remember) I only buy from Josh & Angus

The TD should do something. It may not be a brand new watch.

TBH the TDs should stop advertising all watches as being waterproof period. Although I never swim or submerge my watches this is false advertising - you cant deny that.

This has been opened up to dry, right? No way that much water evaporated from a closed case.

Why would anyone wear a watch in the shower anyway? Do you need to know the time in there? Hot water is not good for any watch rep or gen. Not only can it affect seals but hot air expands and can be forced out of the watch. Later as it cools water can be drawn in along with air. Even luxury brands have been known to warn owners not to wear in a spa, sauna or shower/bath.

This. Rep or gen, water in humid/steamy environments is problematic.

I often use my pressure tested dive watches, gen and rep, in water... but I keep them out of the warm/hot stuff to be safe. Like TB explained, water pressure and heat are not the same thing to a watch...

Will be interesting hearing what TD says. Honestly I would be surprised if they fix it

Like everyone says, watch in shower is a big no no. Get your next watch pressure tested, costs basically nothing at your local watch smith.

I don't care what watches state as to water resistance, 50m, or 200m, you should still never take a hot shower with the watch on, the hot water is not good for the gaskets, crystal gasket, case back o-ring, tube o-rings, and crown o-rings, not to mention the silicon properties used to seal the watch too.

Yes, many people do shower with their watches on, and its up to them, their watch, their decision, but at the end of the day, its strongly advised not to to take a hot shower with a watch on.
