Black finish on the Pams, how do they hold up?

I'm looking at getting a nice black Radiomir panerai with brown suede strap. LOADS to choose from so I spent a few hours narrowing them down and will go over the list again later and choose 2 or 3 that I really like, just need a bit of info now before making the final choice :) (been literally hours!!!)

How does the black finish hold up on these? I noticed some are black ceramic but most are DLC/PVC plated so would I be better off spending the extra $100 or so and go for ceramic?

Movement-
I'm not after a 100% exact rep just a really nice looking one that's got a reliable movement and doesn't scratch up too bad/loose the black colour.

Straps-
Is 'Asso' suede? I've read they're easy to swap over so not essential to have the best looking strap but would save hassle to have a nice one with the watch.

Models im looking at (will be narrowing it down to 2 or 3 then questions on which version/TD to pick!!)

No worries about the DLC coating. In a good rep is really good and will last many years
Regarding ceramic, it is everlasting, just be careful becuase can broke with a strong hit

I think PAM 441 ceramic is a good option for you

And I would recommend you better a PAM 438. It is the same as PAM 441 but with black movement and ceramic bracelet. For a little amount of money you can get a fantastic ceramic bracelet and you can buy after a good Asso strap. In this way you will get "two" watches.

If you buy a PAM 438 KW with decorated Seagull NON-inverted you will get the best option and the cheapest. Read PAM GUIDE for the complete info.

Good luck

Thats good to know thanks :)

Well....that's my night sorted! Loads of coffee deciding on a new watch!! I'll try and find the link to the one I really fancied then go from there with what TD to go with.

I've got an order in with Toro at the moment for a new seamaster 300 pro & the big fancy watch box :)

I accidentally dropped my DLC PAM 599, and there is a small chip in the bezel, but its not noticeable unless you look closely. That means DLC coated can get off with hard impact, but it cant be scratch easily. I just painted it black and its gone hehe.
Its still keeps accurate time, so I can say its reliable.

There is a hairline scratch at 12:00 but after this many years I can't complain for what this watch cost

I have the 441 and love it. Yes the black movement is way cooler as is the ceramic bracelet, but they were out of 438s and I had to have it...
I accidentally dropped it and had to have the movement repaired locally, but other than that not a scratch.
I would agree with Ale and recommend the 438. However as far as strap go I recommend a brown elephant strap from Landcruze. Absolutely amazing.

V.nice :)

Do you have a TD link for that one please mate?

Thanks everyone for the info so far. Lots to digest & think about :)

I got it from Sead at Supermirrors. He doesn't have a website, you have to contact him by email. This is his thread:

http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/forumdisplay.php/236-Supermirrors

He'll give you the best price and his shipping is reasonably priced, plus he packs watches very well, unlike some others...
My watch is the KW or if you wish V6 ( the same thing ) with Seagull, latest version.

Who is this Landcruze you speak of? Great looking strap by the way.

I got one of the first release 386s a while back and the coating was removed in some areas due to scratching. But I would imagine they've improved quite a bit since then! This was back in like 2012/2011 I believe

Thanks for all the pictures & help here gents :)

Just narrowing my choices down to 2 or 3 now!! (This is exhausting!!!!) but want to get the right one for me. If the coating holds up well enough on the non ceramic versions I might go for these instead. I'll be building a small pan collection over the years so will end up with a ceramic one anyway ;)

I didn't really 'get' the whole Pam thing at first and wanted more Omega reps....but they're really growing on me now  really nice!!!
