Simply put, if you guys had a choice to get the ZF v4 with the rose dial or the new shield dial, which one would you get? Thanks.

What's wrong with Shield's thickness?

It's 14.8 mm compared to 11 mm of the rose dial. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just that i'm scared it'll be too tall on my wrist and it'll look weird.

Ditto on all the same dilemma. Except I think that the poor Rose Dial seems like a non issue. I remember @English Gent doing a side by side comparison of the Rose Dial Gen and Rep and I couldn't see a difference. Unless I'm looking at wrong.

What makes it harder is that I pulled the trigger on the V5 3 weeks ago only to be told last week that they wouldn't be getting any more Rose dials. Guess we have to look at m2m if we really want the Rose Dial...

I think I will eventually get the shield one but the new bronze bb blue is really REALLY growing on me.

I think there is a misconception.

ZFs shield dial versions are also 11mm thick. (~ 41x11 mm, same as genuine).

Only the bronze versions are ~ 43x15 mm, which is also the same as genuine.

So ZF made
- rose dial versions (41x11)
- shield dial versions (41x11)
- and the bronzos (43x15)

Hope that helps?

I know about the gen thickness, but you know how rep makers can screw up the most obvious thing :)
OK, if the rep is the same thickness as gen, I'm pulling the trigger on the black one.
I would prefer that the gen would still use ETA, because the rep's keyless now operates in wrong direction.
@Aquanautilus : Are you sure about that?

In regards of thickness, the rose dial is much better IMO. Part of the charme od the Black Bay is (was) the slab-like case profile juxtapositioned with the thinness of 11mm. This resulted in a robust looking and elegantly thin watch.
The in house Tudor has done the same mistake as Omega (300 MC) in building too high, looking chunky and overly bulky.

In terms of dial aesthetics, the rose logo get's the edge. To me, the shield is too serious and austere, while the rose adds a nice and playful touch in contrast to the toolish overall appearance. Additionally, it is matches the Tudor name and has been around with the brand from the very beginning on. The round script (smiley) looks more pleasing to me, as the straight writing looks too broad (same with the Pelagos.)

Im equal about the bracelet.

To sum it up: imo, get the rose BB, as it follows the theme of contrast in s more pronounced way.

I kinda like the smiley rose dial more too.

Trusty's site also states 11mm thickness..

I guess it comes down to what you like. I generally prefer a bit of a thicker watch with more wrist presence. To me the thinner watchers don't wear as nicely. There isn't a right or wrong, just a matter of design preference. I find the shield dial to be professional and powerful where as the rose dial is more playful and artistic. Again, all a matter of preference.

If you go on puretime, the shield version says 41mm x 14.8mm thickness (like gen).

In my understanding ZF "only" changed dial and bracelet, so case size should be the same?

--> edit: @vanwolff and @seedeetee might be right, they really added some mm's to the thickness.
Sorry for my confusion.

I'm also keen on pulling the trigger on one of the new shield dials BUT since I saw XF/V6F's take on the BB bronze who did a far better job on dial printing and bezel-colour I will wait for their take on it.

Sorry m8, this isnt correct. The new shield is something about 14,5mm like gen.

I have compared these two watches on a different (bb blue) thread and here are all the case dimensions, comparisons and old vs new pics.
2016 Tudor Heritage Black Bay (Blue)

https://forum.replica-watch.info/index.php?threads/2016-Tudor-Heritage-Black-Bay-(Blue).378586/

Just to clarify a few things,

Gen rose logo is not 11mm in thickness, it is 12.7 (most td listings are incorrect...but that is not to say that rep thickness is/was incorrect at all...it is the copy/paste information they put on...most seasoned members would know that the TD descriptions is something you need to take it with a grain of salt.

Shield version listings are just as incorrect but I know why they are posting it like that. Technically speaking, case diameters are EXACTLY the same between the rose and shield logo EXCEPT the case back depth due to the new and bigger in house movement. To put it in simplistic terms, there is a bump at the back of the shield logo cb (it is a domed caseback as opposed to flat one on the rose logo)

Here are few pics of the shield vs rose bbs (fresh from the AD:))
