Black Bay Red or Blue Pelagos - What Do You Think?

Hi all. I've been doing a lot of research and I've come to the conclusion that I want a BBR or Blue Pelagos as my next rep.

The problem is that I'm torn between the two. I love them both so much and I need help.

If you personally were faced with this decision which would you choose and why? (Also which factory)

I know these are just opinions, but someone might say something that helps sway my opinion towards a certain watch. Please let me know what you think!

Personally, I like the pelagos better.
But you like both. So get both. you're going to do it eventually, anyway, right?

They are both of pretty interesting colours, but I guess you should go for one that mostly matches your style.

In my mind, the black bay would be great if you like it a little bit vintage and you like to dress up. I think that black bay really shines when you have it with a good suit, white shirt or a waistcoat. Not the watch that I would wear with jeans, really. That is the watch which will draw attention and provide you with a lot of compliments. This one (ZF V4, Rose logo) is the best, as it is super rep, and it's accurate to gen in pretty much everything, even the movement decoration (The shield version gen has the in-house movement, which rep obviously don't have). https://www.intime01.co/promotions/1443-heritage-black-bay-zf-best-version-on-bracelet-a2824.html

On the other hand, Pelagos is more of an everyday watch. It has more simple, toolish appeal, truly a beater watch. This is the one to choose if you are a t-shirt/jeans guy. Despite it's simplicity, it has it's own charm. This matt dial and bezel, one of the best buckles on the market, titanium body... Both ZF v2 or V6f versions are good. https://www.intime01.co/tudor/3057-...itanium-bracelet-a2824-free-rubber-strap.html

To sum it up, this is tough to choose. But if you ask me, I would go for Pelagos. Pelagos is better for everyday use, anywhere. Black Bay is almost screaming to be a dress diver, but I like different style dress watches. I hope it would help.

I actualy found the Pelagos wore a touch too big and the Titanium was a touch too dull for my liking so sold mine on and have both the Red and Blue bezeled BB's.

BUT getting both is the logical if not financial choice.

The vintage meets modern Black Bay red - because You can take it from the business meeting to the beach to dinner out. Imho it´s still easier to get a good Black Bay than to get a good Pelagos (straight marker placement on all markers). No date equals not having to worry about it. Both are great choices.

Haha. Yes, eventually I'll get both but one of them will have to wait for a few months at least. Buying too many watches lately.

Wow, thanks for the great insightful response. I can definitely see myself wearing both watches depending on the situation.

I'm struggling to settle for the rose logo BBR because quite frankly I feel the rose is done very poorly and I know I won't be able to stop thinking about it which would ruin it for me. I lean more towards the shield despite the fact it doesn't house the new movement but that's still something that would be on the back of my mind.

I can feel myself already starting to favor the Pelagos haha

Wow beautiful watch my friend. You make some very good points. Does the rose logo bother you at all?

True that. It's all about your preferences.

Rose logo is not the best, yes, but it is the only bad thing about the watch. It is a perfect rep, one of the best.

Just go for the Pelagos. It's a wise step to get a universal watch first, and then you can get black bay for wearing it while going out with your lady or to impress other ladies (honestly, gents would be even more impressed :) ).
Hell, you can even get Pelagos dressed up, and it looks not so bad!

OP, imo all depends on what you already have in the collection.
If you have watches in a modern style - just add BB to balance it with some vintage look style.
A contrario - if you already are in vintage style area - add Pelagos to have some fresh, countemporary watch.

Considering the "best rep" territory, I think Pelagos > BB and I would go for V6F V3.

I'm also sorta in your situation. I really like both, but i'm leaning more towards the Pelagos after reading a LOT of reviews.

I want to be like you when I grow up. I can see myself getting to that level eventually :hehehe:

I really thought this thread would make the choice clear but I think it has only made the choice harder haha. Thanks for the responses everyone! I have a lot of thinking to do.

Sorry for lack of focus. Both Pelagos is from ZF, the black one is V.2 which is dull dark ironish. The blue one is more shiny V.3. (very much improvement in my opinion)

Get a Pelagos first then Black Bay. Look younger, sporty and elegant that you can pair it with t-shirt polo or even suit. While the black bay will demand you to dress up. But you have to get both and the red one is very good choice.

I feel like I could wear my Pelagos everyday and it’d be occasion appropriate. But it’s not in any way flashy - it’s a tool watch through and through.

That said, I also just pulled the trigger on a black bay black. I couldn't stop looking at it.

I've finally decided. Blue Pelagos ZF is what I'll be ordering after the Chinese holiday ends. It's just much more versatile and I am curious to try that crazy bracelet. Black bay red will be later.
