Who knows how I can get a new bezel insert for my Black Bay (Shield Red) and is it easy to change it?

Ask Helenarou. www.helenarou.com
You can peel out the old insert by removing and destroying the pearl with a fine wire cutter. Through the hole you can work out the old insert. The new one has to be glued in.

Or remove the bezel. But it is more difficult if you don‘t know how it is constructed.

Both, a rose logo and a a shield logo BBs do use the same bezel insert.
You can either buy a replacement insert from our TD or go for HR insert, no other sources.
Gen inserts pop up from time to time on chrono24 but the prices are just crazy.

I know this is an old thread, but for those interested.

As you know if youve come this far, the bezel mechanics are a bit strange. As soon as you pop it off, some plastic assembly breaks - Unlike the Submariners.

I used Smpfan 's advice, and peeled the bezel off using the method he stated. Worked fine, and the insert was glued with double sided tape. Waiting on my replacement insert to come, but it should be an easy swap. :)

I successfully did it twice. The trick is basically to pop the bezel off with a case opener from the 7 o'clock hour marker.

At this point, make sure to keep the watch level as there is a flat tension spring sitting on top of four springs at 2, 5, 7 and 11 hour markers.

Now we don't need to do anything to the tension spring and the four springs aforementioned.

As with the bezel insert, just heat it with a hairdryer or heat gun and blow on it and use your thumbs to push the insert out from the underside.

Before you put any new insert in, I suggest you put the bezel assembly back on first and use double sided tape on inside of the bezel assembly where the bezel contacts with insert. That way you can line up the bezel insert to the 12 hour marker. You might need to turn the bezel to the right until it catches on the last click, so it fully lines up when you place the bezel insert back on.

However, one very important thing to note is when you put bezel assembly, you have to do a right twist to seat the bezel on the click spring on the 2 o clock marker. If you don't do that: two things will happen.

1. The bezel will spin freely
2. The bezel will be very hard to remove if you screw up.

If the bezel spins freely, all you have to do bend the click spring upwards.

When you refer to the delrin ring, do you mean the nylon ring inside the bezel assembly itself?

I've had both the Shield dial and the rose dial. Both share the same assembly if I'm not mistaken. They use the same click spring system used on the Submariners.

I can disassemble the bezel again when I get back.

Exactly that
I can disassemble the bezel again when I get back.
That would be great, as I'm sitting on 2 inserts and I haven't got the courage to take the bezel off yet, because of fear of damaging this nylon ring

Well, the ring is very likely to be "damaged" when you pop it off the first time (as it's tight as heck) BUT if you apply an ample amount of force quickly to pop the bezel off in a manner that would cause more friction to rub on the case / crystal, the nylon ring won't be damaged.

However, in my case, mine was damaged in a way the inner ring had bits of the nylon coming off and that was stopping the bezel from turning freely.

How I fixed this was by getting a 1500 grit sandpaper and sanded the inner ring down until it was smooth again. And that fixed the problem entirely.

Elfriede not thinned. But the sanding was only to smooth out the nylon ring. To remove the bits that was flaking off.

All!

Great information here!

I just recently came to own a 79220R (Smiley BB Red) but the lume pip was missing.

I sourced, through Ebay, a new pip - but am wondering how difficult it would be to install, and what the process looks like. Is the pip just glued on top of the insert, or does it pop through the bezel.

The reason I ask is because it appears that the current bezel (which I would love to keep) does not have a "hole" for the pip to pop in, but maybe only a portion of it came off?

Should I order a whole bezel insert, and attempt the process of changing it out? Or do you think I can just epoxy the new pip on when I get it.

Pic of the watch, and link to the pip I ordered.
