Bezel Alignment on a Trusty Seamaster GMT

So, I got my $108 Trusty Seamaster GMT, and lovely it indeed is. However, By-Tor (the Rush fan that does the wrist checks and Omega articles) pointed out that the Bezel needed aligning. Well, nothing for it but to read his article on how to do that very thing and ... oh, damn, that's not the same watch.

Popping the bezel off took a lot more effort and force than a thumbnail could apply, for a start. So, I thought before I go any further, I'll shoot a few shots for those that follow my footsteps buying one of these amazingly bargainous watches that want to also align the bezel.

Hopefully, they explain themselves, but if not, feel free to ask questions.

This is the watch with the bezel removed.

This is the bezel dismantled into its three components: ring, spring and insert.

Aligned. Yes, it doesn't look it, but that's the angle. Trust me.

Nice job pug!!!!!!!! Almost all SMP's are sent out misaligned but most people don't know the proper alignment and would never notice anyway... . I got lucky with mine from PT... :D It arrived aligned correctly...

Damm , my pet peeve. Why can't they get the inserts to line up?

"Attention all dealers"

Please, ask your sources to wait ... and place the insert in the bezel" last" while it on the watch.

Great job Puggy. The watch is even nicer now.

PS: The bezel construction looks the same as in my watch. You can use a knife or a credit card (yes, really) to force the bezel off as well.

For $108 this watch is a great buy.

I agree with Pammo on this one!

I can't stand that, it looks so wrong when it isn't aligned.

I have had 2 SMPs and the first one pissed me off because the bezel would not rest in an aligned position, the gaps for the bezel ratchet were spaced too far apart I guess, and it drove me nuts.

hehe I got fed up with mine being off and aligned it yesterday too, also put a new perl on it cuz I lost the old one.
I'm sure the anal retentive will say the perl is wrong but it's superlumed so I can see it in the dark thats all I'm interested in!

Seems to be a standard design for the bezels mine is exactly the same too.

sorry Pug, not trying to hijack!

I tried fixing the same issue on an Invicta once, yours was a lot easier it looks like.

@Pugwash,

Sorry if this is a dumb question - but how do you remove the insert from the bezel without wrecking it?

I have the ETA version - same great watch, same bezel problem.

Happy timekeeping!

Pug,

I've got a question for you. Why does the last picture have a blue face without any waves while the picture above it looks grey with waves? Is it the lighting? Just curious.

If you get the bezel off, you just need to apply even pressure from underneath. It's held on with double-sided tape and just pops off. Dead easy.

It's a combination of lighting and polarising filter.

Here's a properly-lit pic I took just before removing the bezel. You can clearly see the blue relief waves.

Hey D4M,

Forgive my terminology. But when you are looking down at the watch, the bezel has small indentions for your fingers to grab the bezel and turn it. In between these indentions are little pointy areas. On most SMP's shipped by our dealers the numbers align with the indentions. This is incorrect. To be correct the numbers on the bezel should line up with the pointy area between the indentions. Again sorry for terminology but hope that helps. Anyone who can explain better...please do...

Ok, I got it, I now see what you are talking about. I really dont know how I missed that. Sometimes
we are looking to the details & miss something as big as that! I learn something new every day... Thanks!
P.S. Your directions were very easy to follow... Thanks again, I will post pics of mine when it comes in and you all can be the judge if I have learned anything from pugwash yet.

See the pearl at the top? See how on the before, it has a flat bit above it and on the after it has a point?

The alignment isn't the bezel insert, it's the bezel itself, basically. Pointy bits should be sticking out at every hour.
