Best or better Pre-V model

Hello all,

I am always interested to know that the quality of the PreV model (I guess most likely from DSN) and we don't have them on the PAM chart. For example the 201A, or even "matching" or Non-Matching" hand

In short, how's the craftsmanship of these (lets not say how close they are to the gen, because what are the odds we can see a real one around)

Could someone provide some helpful hints when hunting for these models?

Thank you.:cheese:

For the best pre-v build would be one sourced from parts and not out of the box from any dealer imo

This is a tough one...If you want a great out of the box Pre-V DSN is one of the only and best ways to go. David Wong would be another, but he has some serious trust issues. Plus, his crown guards aren't near as good a DSN.

I think there is a pretty wide consensus that a good recipe for a Pre-V assembled from parts would be the following:

Case: Old Noob factory with pre V lugs $30-$50
Caseback: Jakob on Rep geek $120
Crown and Tube: DSN $??
Crown guard: DSN with a Sead A-F lever $70
Crystal: DSN non-AR, H factory with AR striped $50
Dial: FGD, Southy, Steph_Dexter (possibly awaiting results of production run), last would be DSN $50-250
Strap: Dirk, Ciampi, Stefano $150
Movement: Swiss 6497 or A6497 $50-$150

You are looking at a minimum of $500-$800 for a Grail build from parts. Or $230 from DSN. The choice is clear for most.

That would have been mine if I had logged in a few hours earlier. Bummer!!! More weekend sales please!

Since we are on topic....How is the shape of the Noob V3 Crown guard for a Pre-V 5218 build? I know the lever is different, but the shape looks good! Any thoughts on this?

Thanks all,

I guess for an average player like myself, DSN is good enough.

DSN is a solid choice. You will never know the difference. I am going the custom route because I have the desire to make my own Swiss watch. And normally I would be happy with DSN stock offering, but I have discovered some amazing artists on these boards that make dials so close to the real deal its scary. Start with DSN and go from there. In my opinion he offers the best PVD coating in the game. His PVD is gorgeous. Check out the 5218-202a.

As Coldi and Grimlock say, you need to source parts to have the better and maybe unique Pre V PAM.

Here's my Pre V Pam 5218- 201/A:

-FGD dial first batch with matching hands and lume.
-Jakob caseback.
-Case and crown David Wong. Case set with pre v lugs drilled
-Pre-V lugs with double screw installed.
-Swiss ETA movement with h3 pin installed.
-Goin CG (v2) modded by goin to fit perfect with the case with no gaps.
-Crystal with an exceptional optics (no distorssion) with no AR like gen.
-Dirk Vero Squalo Olive Khaki Pre-V strap.

Total cost is +1000$. But it worth the money!

Seriously. Not sure where you guys are getting these gen preVs;) Hopefully one day one of my builds will live up to the standards you all have set.

Actually, the most accurate/sought after 201a build I know of came from a well known modder right in your back yard. It went for $1500 ...

What was the recipe?

Here's what I'm planning:
Noob 111J case drilled for 1.6mm DSN Pre-V Lugs
Noob crystal with AR removed
DSN Crown guard with Sead a-f lever
DSN Caseback (the 201a caseback looks good)
DSN double gasket crown
Steph Dexter Non-matching Dial
Helenarou superlumed, non matching hands.
Swiss 6497
Might go with a dirk khaki shark for the strap.

This is a lot like my 203a except I am going all untouched DSN on the case due to the epic PVD coating. I'm not touching that case. I've got a swiss 6497 in there on a Dirk Tan. I'm hoping for a Steph Dexter or a Southy dial in August (currently begging them). I am getting the replacement crown on Friday and will be wearing my 203 by Friday night!!!

I think dsn's newborn 201a is great except for the dial. It should be a great starting point for most people. I still can't tell the difference between dsn case and a noob 111j case.

I'm not a fan of the non matching look with the orangey numbers on the dual and the white hands. AFAIK there are only a small handful of gen mismatch versions in existence (12?) and the rest were corrected in production (300?).

Noob V3 versus Noob 111J

Ferretti is the H fac case right? Nice build

Pre V fans... do me a favor and check out these pics of the 111J versus the Noob V3. I don't see a lot of difference in the lugs. Is the V3 the new 111J? I feel like the V3 would produce a totally respectable 201a. Thoughts?

Hi guys,
I just bought an FGD 202a dial and I would like to go all out and build one. However, I have always bought my Pams already built. This will be my first time to gather parts and assemble a watch!

Could you guys let me know how to contact all the guys....DSN, Jakob, Goin?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks!

DSN is Davidsen, a TD here. He sells a fully made "new born" pre-v watch you can modify. The case and crown/cg are very good, but not the best. The dial sucks.
Jakob is active on another forum. I'm not sure which one, but I'm guessing RWG. I recently saw him post a sale on case backs. IMHO it's not worth it if you get a new born DSN watch, since the new born DSN case back is pretty decent.
