Hi guys

Here I am again trying to understand a little more of this fantastic world of watches and moviments and so on ........

When it occured to me to ask a couple questions:

-21J low beat vs high beat?

Is it true that the high beat is better almost like the Asian ETA's?

-ETA Swiss vs Asian

Is it just a case of price vs durability???

-2836 vs 2892

Again, 2892 better in both asian and swiss versions. I know there are variants, -1, -2. I hear wonders about this moviment. Maybe even the best around???

-7750/7753 vs Sea Gull ST-19/copy venus (lemania)

Again price vs the best Asian copy?, or just throw them both out and get a good japanese quartz (miyota)???

At the end, is asian just cheap and good or are the swiss better but not to justify the expense because it cant better the performance of the cheaper asian version.

Sorry about the lingo being incorrect, I am a newbie and trying to absorb as much as possible.

It beats at the same rate as the ETA/clone yes. In theory it should be as smooth.

-ETA Swiss vs Asian

Pretty much. The problem is a lot of the time you can get an Asian clone instead of Swiss. The factories don't care and the differences are too small for a lot of the dealers to spot. MarvellousReplica is one of the few dealers I trust to supply a gen Swiss because their guy can tell the difference. If you want Swiss your best bet is to go for a SW200-2 as these are very rare in clone form.

-2836 vs 2892

Again, 2892 better in both Asian and Swiss versions. I know there are variants, -1, -2. I hear wonders about this movement. Maybe even the best around??? Not really better, just different. here is an excellent article comparing them both: http://www.asthewatchturns.com/?page_id=112

-7750/7753 vs Sea Gull ST-19/copy venus (lemania)

You can't compare these two movements, they are different beasts. The 7750 is a three register (sub dials) automatic movement whereas the ST-19 is a two register hand wind. The ST-19 is probably the best movement found in reps today, it's bullet proof. It's not actually a copy of the Venus, it is the venus, Sea-Gull (the name is hyphenated) bought the rights and machinery back in the '60s. The current ST-19 is an improved version of the original Venus 75.

Quartz? Why on earth would want to put a quartz movement in a mechanical watch, even if it does fit.

At the end, is asian just cheap and good or are the swiss better but not to justify the expense because it cant better the performance of the cheaper asian version.

Hope that helps.
