Best 6542 at the moment?

Hi guys, I have just started my rep game a few weeks ago and I have been researching for the best 6542 rep out there.

I have noticed that no version out there from TDs are perfect, and most of the parts should be modded.

However I don't think I will be able to pay 1000+ for the minor changes (dial change, case change, etc.) - All I need is a rep that has the a2836 and a little aged look.

Also, its kinda confusing, because these reps dont have their factory names, but I heard that ts versions are better than purewatch or other TDs.

I have looked up some of the 6542's from TDs and found this

https://www.ts-stations.cn/goods.php?ProId=27086

Does this seem like an okay version?

As you've said yourself - the available 6542 reps aren't perfect off the shelf. So you just have to accept some flaws if you don't want to get a modded one or mod it yourself.

I have two of the ts-station Serpico y Laino dial GMTs and besides cleaning up the dials/hands, reshaping the inserts and brassing the bezels, I haven't done anything else and they look fine. The lugs are too long, but if that concerns you then put it on a leather strap and it's far less noticeable.

Thing is, ts-station saw the popularity of their GMTs and hiked the price. So you just have to ask yourself if they're worth the money.

The TDs can get a couple of BP models which are less pricey but aren't "vintaged". But they have a better case shape and look pretty good overall.

You can read a lot about the ts-station 6542 and other options available in this thread.

If you read the above thread you'll see a lot about the "Li 6542" - that's Li from JTime, a TD here. Great option, good price - but I'll mention I was just given a refund by Li after waiting a month for QC pics that never came, because the "maker" of those watches has some kind of supply issue. Unclear if it affects just the one I bought (white dial Pan Am), or the black one too, but JTime is a no-go at the moment. And with Kuvarsit banned, what else besides TSwatch and the cartel versions are there?

Everything you need to know and hours of reading pleasure!

Thanks. I actually had read the thread and I could not find the Serpico y Laino dialed version on the tswatch website.

If that existed, that would've been my #1 choice.

Also - Ive noticed that ruby's dials are not available any more, so I was looking for aged effects just from the factory.

Maybe some options mentioned in the thread are not available as time passed by? :(

Have you reached out to Ruby? Quite a few people seem to be saying similar lately just because they can’t see what they want on the website.

I'm pretty confused now as I couldnt find the Serpico y Laino dial version.

I was also planning to age my bezels if they look TOO new.

By the way, does the batch hyperlinked at my first post look fine..?

Actually not! Thanks for the info. Never thought of that option. Should I send the dial to modders like yodog in this forum after I obtain one?

And would it be reasonable to expect around 300$ for the dials on Ruby?

Sorry, so many questions and such a difficult watch for newbies I think.... and thanks for everyone for helping out!

ts-station launched a new site at the time they hiked the price on the SyL GMT, thevintagepower.cn, and that became the only place you could get it. But the site is currently down.

If you want the dial aged then you could either do it yourself (tutorials elsewhere on this forum) or send to a modder. Haven’t enquired about 6542 dials, but I know a gilt 1675 dial was $325 from Ruby last time I asked.

The 6542 is my all time favorite watch and I personally think I own the best built one on the forum. The proper parts, colors, finishes, etc. This one is sitting at around $1800 in total cost for parts and labor but it is totally worth it. Best of luck building yours you will love it!

Originally, TS station (before the prices went up), with a little bit of modding of course...
