My second, built-from-scratch watch made by Belkin12 in Kiev, Ukraine, arrived safely and it's every bit as incredible as my first one, the pre-V Panerai 5218-205/A, that I was able to buy from him in 2021. In both cases, the watches traveled safely over 10,000 Kilometers, thanks to very thoughtful packaging that didn't raise eyebrows at customs.
Incredible, here, means, the ingenuity and craftmanship that went into this built is second to none. Belkin12 sourced a Cortebert 540 from the 1940s because it has a similar bridge layout to the Cortebert-616-derived Rolex 618, and it would probably take a forensic horologist like Jose Pereztroika to identify it as such. To understand this watch, one has to understand the history of vintage Panerai, so it's a watch that very, very few people can relate to, but as someone who does, it gives the feel of an original waiting to age gracefully.
