Bad experience with trusted watch service, what would you do?

So I wanted to get some watches serviced, so I picked one listed here on RWI. I sent my genuine Omega Seamaster 300M Chrono Diver, a new rep Hublot V6, and a new rep PAM332.

First, I have to say communication was not great, it would typically take a week to get a reply to any email. He had said up front that his backlog was 1-2 months, so I knew I was going to have to be patient. After waiting one week shy of 4 months to have these back, today they arrive.

As soon as I picked it up, I could hear something loose inside the Hublot. Taking a look, there is a loose screw that is floating around and get bound up in the movement and rotor.

Looking at the PAM332, I see that the minute totalizer isn't zero'd.

So basically my confidence is blown, and I'm concerned for all 3. Especially for my genuine Omega.

So what am I to do? Send these back to the same guy to have this corrected and hope for the best or send to someone else and incur another huge expense?

I would get a mod involved and take a shot on sending the watches back.

u should definitely get admin involved and let the watchsmith correct his mistake ,, the pam can happen during travel but a loose screw inside the movement is bad craftsmanship ,just my opinion , if he is trusted here then he should take care of the problem

I don't think it's necessary for mods to get involved here. I know I can send them back to the same person again, without a problem, and without outside intervention. The problem is that I have lost confidence there, and am not sure if I should.

I hadn't considered that option (requesting refund). Somehow I doubt that would happen though. At the moment I'm leaning toward just sending them back and hoping for the best. Can't really justify spending any more on the reps at this point. From this experience I'm switching to the camp that says to just leave them alone unless there is a problem.

My Omega on the other hand is the first "real" watch I bought over 10 years ago, so I would have liked to have total confidence in the work on that one.

You shouldn't ask for advise then not follow it..... There absolutely should be at least a mod involved here if not the Boss himself. This isn't just for your benefit alone but it concerns the entire forum.... I won't make any comment as to why or how this could have happened but it's not one watch, it's two,,, and both have problems and furthermore the time was far longer then stated... The very least that should happen is a mod find out if there's personal problems going on or something else.... But by involving help from a mod or admin you may very well help to save others, including the watchsmith, from having further problems.... just my opinion.

What did the watchsmith say when you told him of these issues?

He did what you would expect of anyone that has "trusted" status here, he offered to fix the problems if I sent them back.

That is what have decided to do. I expect the screw is one of the ones that secures the movement, and the misaligned totalizer is not an outrageous issue. Everyone can have a bad day, so I will give the benefit of the doubt and give an opportunity to make it right.

dont blame him for being put off and walking gently until he gets his gen back , sort of like telling the chef the first course tastes like shit and still being served the next 4 or 5 courses all the while wondering what amount of spit is in each dish .

personally id just send the two off to someone who you have trust in get those fixed and patiently wait for the omega to land safely home at which point you can let him know the concerns if he is a stand up guy it seems he would figure a way of doing you right

Honestly, the Big Bang thing has happened to me too on two models. My SS/CF had the rotor come loose and the watch smith said this was a common problem with this exact movement and the rotor. Then my All Black & Blue had that little piece of metal fall off after servicing. Sent it back to the smith and he repaired everything.

We are using the post to much. It's not like taking by yourself the watch to a smith. That is a big problem...

The least you can do op is keep the forum posted on the outcome.......I know your not wanting to send your gen to this guy, but I love my reps and hope I never trust someone that waits a week to respond to my msgs....hopefully this was just a freak occurrence and the guy gets it together.

Have a look at the "27 jewels swiss made" markings on the movement, the paint/decal is chipping away. Is this before or after servicing?

Another option, have you thought about just fixing these yourself? Pop the movement holder screw back on the Hublot. Decase the pam and carefully use a toothpick to nudge the subdial hand back to zero.

No you shouldn't have to do any of this & I'm sure it will all work out, hand in there.

Listen, if your gonna post a story then tell the whole thing and name the guy who you sent the watches to.
