Well strictly speaking, limited - restricted in amount. So having 5, 10, or 10000 pieces of something are all limited. Panerai does get away from that definition by virtue of its millesimation which adds a per year to the limitation. That makes all PAMs limited editions. What is considered as limited edition for other brands, Panerai calls them special editions, meaning they are only produced in one run, like the PAM127 or its destro twin, the PAM217. For the PAM984, its special edition version is the PAM985, which had blue lume, of which only 19 pieces were made and also came with an arctic adventure with Mike Horn.
It seems Panerai either mis-reported when they said only 300 were going to be made, or mis-calculated the demand so had to increase the run after the announcement or it intentionally announced the wrong number, for replica makers to pick up, whereby the millesimation number would be an easy flaw to detect along with the lack of Eco Titanium engraving on the back which they also did not put on the prototype they showed in SIHH 2019. Sneaky.
