Avoiding PAMs with date

Hey guys. I have the PAM 243 and I'm terrified every time I have to change the date. I set it to 6:30 before I do change the date, but I'm still worried about screwing up the watch. There are a few PAMs with dates that I like, but I avoid buying them because of the date. Is this a valid concern?

Not necessarily a huge issue imho. However when setting the date, I usually do a manual setting and flipping the date instead of just changing the date as to which you can try too to ensure peace of mind not to damage the movement! ;)

That would be in cases where the date is just a day or two from where you want to set it. But if it's the 4th today and the date is on the 3rd, it would be VERY tedious to use the manual setting of the time to flip the date to the correct date (I've done it with a SOSF whose date change is broken so I have to do it manually, it takes so long... ) But as long as you follow the basic rule, you won't get into any issues.

newbie question.
Can someone explain this issue? How is the correct way to set the date?
Does this issue concern a certain movement?

It's an old concern regarding the A7750 although I don't know if it exists in other automatic movements (nor would I want to try it on my reps. :) ). The movement engages the date wheel around 10PM and does not let go until around after 2AM. To change the date using the quickset function on the crown at this critical period may damage the date-change mechanism. So the recommended position to do that is as far away from the 10 - 2 arc, which is in the 6 position. I do this and set the date one day before the actual date and then move to the quickset hour and then adjust the time until the date changes and I am at the correct time.

I found here a guide on how to take care and use the A7750 carefully (such as when should you set the date or reset the chrono etc..) this could apply to the PAM's with the date. As long as you're careful enough to change the date (isn't as 'dangerous' as say Hublot's or AP's with their chrono) you should be fine. Hope this helps.

Excellent answers. Thank you both. :)

Thats exactly the way to do it M. The quick set date function on my M2M 243 noob is not working. Is this a simple fix for a watchsmith or even DIY?

Anyone know what is involved?

I read that there are two scenarios; 1) the date change mechanism was simply dislodged, in which case it can be moved back or 2) the date change mechanism is damaged and you may need to replace a part. Whether to have it done by a watchsmith or go the DIY route depends on how comfortable you are with tinkering with the movement.

Haha my take is that for rep the simpler it is the better. I mean correct me but I feel that for too complicated watches there will just be certain things about it that isn't perfect

so I still feel Pam reps are great:)
