asian vs swiss movement

quick question. how good is the asian manual wind movement in the panny reps out there. my fiddy and 111H both have the swiss movements, but have ordered a vintage panny with the asian movement and am wondering if it will give me good service?

I have 3 Asian PAMs. I may have just been lucky or maybe they are good movements, but I have never had any problems with mine. I think the best secret is something I found a while back. When you wind it up make sure the face of the dial is pointing down. Instead of winding while the watch is vertical wind it horizontally and make sure the dial face is down. I also wind slower than I would with a Swiss. I remember reading something about how in Asian movements this may keep parts more aligned by gravity helping. I don't know how true it is, but I have had great success with it. I find it is a bit quieter too than the Swiss counterpart.

are you sure that your swiss movements are realy swiss?

so called "swiss" unitas 6497-1 with swan neck is 100% asian. But all dealers call it swiss.

do you know the "lie" thread from Pug on RWG?

no i am not 100% sure, however i am 100% sure there is an eta stamping by the balance wheel where it is supposed to be.

Read the thread form Vaccum and there is a picture of a true Swiss movement.

I agree, also there are Asian needle movement with ETA stamp as well, the same stamp as swiss. I just had one and gave it to my friend. As mentioned before, compare it carefully with the picture from Vaccum.

i don´t know about needle swan neck movement

but dagger swan neck unitas is 100% asian... and the ETA stamp is FAKE.

in my opinion...the needle is swiss, the dagger 100% asian.
the 6497 swiss naked only costs 60$ wholesale...if that at all !
my buddy has the cheapest version of an Unitas in a rep....as daily beater....since a year....works perfect, not kidding !

that licks that they would sell an asian movement as a swiss.
