I'm buying my first pam, and have a question that I think the more experienced can advise me on.

Is it truly worth $200.00 more for the ETA upgrade rather than the Asian Model. They both beat at 28,800, does the movement have a different look?

I've tried to have my question answered by Ale's Pam review, but wasn't able to find exact answer, just movement comparisons between Gen and Rep.

If you can get a true Swiss made ETA movement instead of a Swiss clone [exact copy], you will have an edge in how well the movement works long term, as true ETA Swiss movements are extremely reliable and well made. your choice, both are good. If you plan on owning it for the long term and maybe pass it on to a family member, a genuine Swiss made ETA movement holds it own, and value too. Good luck !!

From what I keep reading just go with the Asian ETA. Factories will possibly sell the same Asian ETA for the price of a swiss and the TDs do not open the reps to check on it.
There is the other possibility of getting either an old swiss or a swiss made of different parts. The other parts (dial/ hands/ case dimensions etc.) are compatible between the Asian clone and the swiss original so if You really want/ or need You can always get a genuine swiss movement locally and put it in later or when needed.

Thanks for the quick response, which by the way, makes perfect sense. The last thing I wanted to get a reply about was the review after reading it for another (key word, another) 2 hours with no solution. Take care mate.

In reps the problem is not deciding between Rep or Swiss movement, the problem is getting a TRUE, NEW and COMPLETE Swiss movement.
You cannot assure that (the dealer either) when you are buying a rep
This is the matter

Sometimes, like it happens with manual winding 6497 it is not worth a "Swiss".
