Haven't seen of/heard of this movement before. Is the sweep closer to the likes of a Asian 21J movement or an ETA?

I have this very watch and the sweep is verrrrrry sloooooooow. definately not as smooth as any 21j i have.
Most likely lower than 21vph. likely 18vph. Hope this helps. Nice watch either way. I got mine from WBK and excellent dealer !

hhmm, Is that top plate just for show? dosen't look like a fucntional plate at all. Note how the screws are below the finished plate and the balance cock looks to be covered by the same plate ( should be sepreate ). I would hazard a guess that your not ganna find anything "cool" under that plate just some low grade junk movement.

Having said that, I will say that It's not the greatest pic for being able to tell.

It's the same as Asian 21j, without automatic winding mechanism. backplate is changed to faux plate. If it works, it works. Very cheap movement IMHO, nothing like Asian 6497.

I dont know if the fewer jewels account for the slower speed, but definately is much slower than ANY 21j ihave seen or owned. This would include the cheapest of the cheap movements!.

No, the jewels will not account for it running slower. All that will do is make it run poorly, i.e. jumpy second hand and so on.

The slow beat has to do with the gearing of the watch, the number of teeth on the wheels and so forth.

Very good Calix. That jumpy second hand question has come up before. So would it be a bad jewel, or just that it's a 17 jewel ?

Well, a bad Jewel would couse differnt problems then a jumping(studdering) second hand. a cracked or broken jewel would lead to the stoping of the watch.

Dirty jewels also can lead to the second hand jumping. this can also build up to be an abrassive and can wear away over time the wheel pivot leading to it's needing to be replaced.

The main reason for the "jumpieness" in these lesser jewel movements is friction, the jewels cut down on friction, the more jewels the smoother it runs, fewer, the rougher it runs.

is it possible to change the movement to something that runs faster/smoother? or you can't tell unless the backplate is removed to see whats undernearth it?
