Argh...another dead 177L.

So my 177L inexplicably stopped for no reason the other day. All the usual tricks have yielded no result, so I think mine might have succumbed to -"poopy lowbeat syndrome". Where can i source a high-beat movement with PAM engravings? I'm tempted to just buy one from Tat, even though the movements are sterile.

If not they got those new and improved rhodium plated or whatever pam movements... I think there's a thread by Panera and sead floating around... $100+ though... or wait till tuesday next week when I pick up mine.

Yeah I saw that...but $100 vs. $55 is a bit of a difference, so the question becomes whether or not branded plates are worth twice as much.

And I thought about swapping the plates too, but that seems kinda advanced for an amateur like myself. I can just picture springs and gears and jewels flying everywhere and me ending up with 2 junk movements instead of 1!

Well, you can practice on the dead movement :)

The new movements seem to have much nicer CTG bridges. As soon as I can find a reliable source, I'm getting some for my see-thru Pams :)

lol I wish I was that brave Doc. I think it's going to be either a full service or a new movement, unless anyone has other suggestions besides the stuff i've already tried (tapping it on the palm, "kick-starting" the balance wheel, checking the crown and movement holders)

I ordered a new movement for my 111 from helenru for $53 and had it shipped to Katt...he charged me $35 to swap the bridge on my broken movement, install on the new and ship it back. He also greased it up for me too. Awesome deal if you ask me. Had a lume job done while he had it too.

True but for 90 bucks (plus your shipping back and forth to Katt) I'd just do the new Panera/Sead movement and have something completely new, and I'd just swap the movement in myself.

I thought mine was doing great...keeping great time, running like a champ with no problems whatsoever until the day it failed. I thought it was an "exception to the rule" of these new lowbeats...unfortunately like a few others, mine was just a matter of time.

It's interesting to me how the H-Factory did almost everything right... Good cases, great Lume, good dials and hands, decent CGs.... Seems like the corner they cut was the movements.

For what it's worth, my 026k has been a daily abuse, ahem, beater watch... It's taken much abuse and still running strong. Time will tell how long it lasts... I have a few high beat spares from older watches if my H-Factory movements die.

Truth be told I was thinking about replacing the movement down the road anyways as the lowbeat ticking was beginning to annoy me...i just didn't expect to do it this soon. This one is going up have to do some hibernating in the watchbox until I can get the funds together...sinks because its one of my favorite two and its going to be a few months before i can scrape the money together.

So the new high beat movements are going to be about 135 shipped from Sead vs 58 shipped from getat. More than double...I'm very tempted to just but a sterile movement to get this thing back on my wrist, at least it will be a high beat even if it is sterile.

Mary@ Watchinternational is selling them for $90, not sure if that includes shipping. There have been a few selling on the forums.

True, stickers are an option...I just don't want to hurt resale value (even though this will probably one I'll wear until it falls apart from old age :) )

Ok, small update: I opened it up again to take another look... The balance wheel moves freely in one direction but won't budge in the other. Any suggestions?

Same here...except mine broke when I dropped it. Looked down and saw it'd stopped, so I took it off to wind. Was sitting at a high top table at a bar and someone walked by and bumped my arm. It fell from my hand and dropped. I think one of the gears was knocked out of position. Swapped my high beat from my 111 that I'd just gotten back lumed from Gary and swapped the bridge. At least now I have a high beat and some spare parts ;)
