Here i am,
Thievery Corporation - Fight To Suvive playing on repeat and starting the review..
I think too much words loose the meaning so i ll try to keep it short.
First,i would like to thank Angus @puretime for the opportunity to be on of the two reviewers.
So,got the watch super quick ( once again the service was excellent ), watch was in the plastic Rolex Box as it is advertised, nothing to say about the box but it is a nice touch.
Thanks to THE HOUR GLASS also LoL
The watch itself is what you d expect it to be,
The first slim Daytona with "semi" functional chronograph.
Casing:
The factory did a pretty good job regarding the case, the 0.9mm difference in thickness isnt noticeable when on the wrist and for sure no one is gonna call you out for the thickness( if that s your concern),next to a gen it might be easier to notice that but then again not a problem since you already know what you re buying. This is not a A4130 it is a A7750 so the case cant be 1:1 gen spec.the one thing that could be better on the next version is the case could be a bit rounder on the sides, for the modders here could be an easy fix if you re willing to open up the watch.
Crown Guards and Crown position:
By far the best CGs on a rep Daytona, having owned BP,Noob,JF(both 7750 and 23j versions) and lucky enough to owned a gen 116520 i must admit CGs are the best, maybe at the bottom they shouldnt have that little angle but come on,only OcD guys will notice.Comparing to the rest of the rep market no one got so close to CGs
Crown position is the best by far now, also the best in the rep market to date.
Crown itself feels realy good with sharp edges, winding is super smooth specially for a 7750,
Usual trip lock system
Although the Date plate is removed from
The movement it still has that middle crown position where you were supposedly set the date,i thought it would be straight to time setting buuuut you live and learn.
Pushers:
They are 90% there regarding the shape, they are the bst on a 7750 but still a bit "pointy" i think the 23j JF used were better on this matter, then again easy fic for the factory.
Regarding their position they should be slightly angled to the CGs,then again stop with the OCD lol.
Dial:
Love the red DAYTONA lettering
The lettering under the crown though could be better, there is a big difference compating to gen, text should be wider also
GEN
REP
Hour markers are really good, have that little 3d effect feeling.
Crown on the dial has that 3D effect also, not 1:1 but then huge improvemet, previous crowns on different models may have 3d effect but also they were thinner. This one is 85% there, although i think the factory should go for the 95% and more since it is a truly nice touch.
Subdials:
Numbers should be bolder!!this must be fixed,
The lines on the 3 oclock subdial are too long comparing to gen, these two things should be fixed.
Subdials have a nice shine, change a bit depending on the lighting
They do have that yellowish shine depending the ligh but not as much as a gen.
So on the dial itself i would fix the crown itself the thickness of the numbers in the subdials and the lines in thesubdial @3.Personally for me these things would make a great Dial,if you want even better then go gen.
Rehaut:
Not as deep and fake as the 23j etc but then again not as gen also,i think it is quite easy to sand it down a bit and make it more gen like regarding thickness, regarding lettering well lets skip that lol.
Anyway quit bitching this is how you would see the rehaut on your wrist
Pretty nice in my opinion, not that deep as other versions.
Almost forgot,MAKE THE REHAUT SHINNIER!!!that is the easiest thing to do..Forget the lettering just make it shinnier.
SEL:
First time to see same sel fitment in every lug lol.
I wouldnt touch the SEL at least in the watch i received, everything is as upposed to be.
Bezel:
Something throws me a little off about the bezel,of course it is not completely flat as gen but not too thick also its in the middle, probably due to the movement,i wouldnt mind about that too much but regarding lettering a little thicker font and deeper engraving would make it even better.
Engraving is precise though so that is nice.
Regarding the bracelet, once i got it out of the box it was a bit "rough" but it got so smooth once i wore it for 10-15 minutes.probably will get even better with some time wearing it.Best bracelet so far!
Nothing much to say,it is smoother than every other competito, nice finish to it,904l probably??
Clasp
Top right corner is a bit crooked but nothing else,it operates like gen,and that clicking sound when you close it is....mmmmwaah. Buy it and you ll see lol
Sooo,conclusion
This is the very first 904 replica, maybe there is no difference visually or maybe there is,it is a huge step for the rep market though.
This is a v1 and i have to say no other rep had a v1 that was so good straight out of the box, sure go ahead you ll find flaws, every person is different and has different tolerances.
I m a Daytona guy,owned-own-and will own probably every model there is,i got excited when i received my 23j due to the fact it was slim etc etc.
But man the 23j is nowhere near this beauty.i would choose this one over every other rep Daytona i have owned.Yes it doesnt have a fully working chronograph, its ok go buy the gen then.it is discussed million times but let me say it again. This is a 450$ watch, around 1/25 of the gen price,so go figure out.
I like the watch a lot,it has a nice feeling on the wrist,it looks really good and you know...you cant go wrong wearing a Daytona.
Some wristshots i took, but more to come of course in the wristshot section etc
My wrist size is around 7,1"-7,2" or for the normal
People like me (lol kidding)around 18,2cm..
Regarding WR i ll have it check it out by my watchsmith.
PS.If there is anything else you guys want me to add here just let me know.
Update#1
I attach some photos comparing stock BP Daytona, stock ARF 904l Daytona and Noob Franken YM(watch has being brushed and polished like gen)
To be honest the difference i see, except the ARF being much more well balanced, is that it might have a bit more yellowish-white gold shinning?
