ARF 116234 vs Gen 116200

Got my ARF DJ a few days ago, and while collecting parts to franken, came across a really good deal for a gen 116200. Thought I'd do a little pictoral comparison. The dial is pretty close with the art having a bit more goldish hue, but what really stood out was the bracelet. Brushing on the arf was VERY close to gen.

GEN is on left with smooth bezel for reference

Dead giveaways in my opinion are the rehaut and date wheel.

Wow, that ARF is really good.
You are right, the rehaut engraving is nowhere near the gen but other wise it’s great.

Getting scary these days. The ARF is so good done (aside from the flaws)

To me, the biggest difference is how the sunburst play on the gen. How does this look in real life?

i have been wearing my franken-ed ARF for a few days straight and it is the best feeling + most visually stunning rep that I have ever come across. This is achieved particularly because of the fluted bezel (it sparkles correctly like gen and that is the icing to the cake)

IMO the ARF can look perfect if the following mods are done (in priority) -
1. change date disc to gen or noob ASAP
2. sand the rehaut engraving away
3. change the crystal to gen
4. change the seconds hand to gen

I will buy a gen seconds hand next because the ARF seconds hand lacks that cylindrical detail on the pinion and the taper isn't as good as gen. IMO this is a big tell for me and it annoys me every time I tell the time

When I first picked up my ARF (in its stock form), I immediately thought that Rolex is screwed because of the overall quality and heft this watch has

If ARF reps a 16710 with a SH 3185 next............ then I think I have thoroughly enjoyed Rolex frankens to the extent that I will be retire from building anymore franken Rolex hehehe

Is there any genuine 6-digit datejusts with no rehaut engraving? Thought I'd seen one before but not sure. Because if there is then it should be OK to sand away the engraving on the ARF. But otherwise it just makes it a bigger tell?

In that case this would be a perfect base for a franken. Been thinking about getting a genuine dial with hands + roulette datewheel. Is it hard to remove the engravings and get the polish-look on the rehaut?

I recall there was a brief tutorial from somewhere which recommends sanding the rehaut starting from 300 grit and working your way to 1000 grit. Then maybe use cape cod or some 3M polishing thing to finish it off. The key is to have a consistent motion when sanding away the rehaut engraving.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. It looks a fantastic rep for sure. My arf is waiting at home for me with gen dial, crystal and date wheel when i return from my trip... now to get my franken assembled

Most likely my next purchase! Thanks for the review. Would you consider these the best out of the box reps at the moment along with the perps?

No. Out of the box, the datewheel is terrible. Gen datewheel and gen Dial will run you under $500. I’d even go as far to say that datewheel alone is enough to be honest. I found a good deal on the dial, which is why I bought. Swap the datewheel, and you’ll
Have a pretty good rep under $500 though.

I wanted to service mine, while both were getting swapped out, but my modder of choice is backed up, so I will wear it until it dies, then do the service.

Do you have the gen datewheel part number and where I can get them?
Thanks
