Are watch hands interchangeable between movements?

Hello
I suppose my question is also
Are the axles on movements always the same, generally the same or never the same?

I ask because I am considering changing the hands of a watch that I like 99% to have hands that more easily seen in poor light.

I have posted in the flame free zone because I fully expect this could incur a deluge of comments critical of making a rep even less accurate if posted elsewhere.

Nevertheless I have an IWC ingenieur from Sead that is almost perfect. The only problem is that the shiny gold hands disappear in low light if they don't have a highlight to reflect. He had some other colours to chose from but the issue wasn't apparent 'till I had it on my wrist. The watch is the one in this post
http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/omega-iwc-breitling-95867 . Any advice about the rights or wrongs of painting the hands in situ rather than replacement?

The movement is a Miyota quartz, the caseback is easily removed and I am willing to take the risk of failure.

Cheers

I L W T

This table is useful for what you want to know. Sorry, it's not easily read here:

Personally, I would take off the hands and paint them. In situ, you could just paint the tips down to the center divider. I'm thinking a nice red would be interesting.

Finding new hands for a quartz might be a little difficult.
