Well, I built the strap I wanted out of Gator and the grand total was------->300 bucks

I don't think I will have a strap that cost more than the watch..Oh well

Most decent gators start at about $125 USD and go up, but their prices do seem high.

Yes, imho they are that damn good. Over at timzone, on the Girard Perragaux forum, ths is THE place to get aftermarket straps that rival the gen. I love the flexibility you have to built straps and all the high end material.

I think I am going to try out a watch boys gator from EBay. I have heard many good things about their straps.

Good to see you BBB. I am still thinking about building one for my 232. I am very impressed on how you can build your own strap. Also, I love that you can have something stamped on the inside!! Can you imagine a strap that has "DAWG" stamped on the inside :D

why not get "Dawg" stamped on the outside? There is a guy at RWG selling Pam straps that say Panerai on outside--sure he could do "Dawg"

Those are some expensive watch straps! I don't see why it would be so high except that it's a made to order place. I mean even at real gator that's expensive. Plus it's not 100% handmade. You can tell the stitching is done by machine. So they could probably make this in under an hour. Or like their website says "while you wait" I wish I got paid $350 an hour.

Dawg, only thing I would make sure of with the watch boys is that it's real gator. Many places sell gator straps that are made from embossed leather to look like whatever animal they want. I once saw some embossed cowhide look exactly like rattlesnake. So be wary if you want "real" gator. However, like I said they can do some amazing patterns now on cowhide, so you would have to be a real leather nut to know the difference. So it all comes down to taste. If you like the way it looks and don't care necessarily that it's not "real" then by all means save yourself some $$$.

Lastly, while some of those leathers are average and some more exotic, did you all look at all they had to offer? The two that jumped out at me were beaver tail and seal. I thought seal was protected and I am pretty sure beavers are too. At least in the US. Maybe they are getting hides from deceased zoo animals, but those sure are weird. Although, I do have to admit the beaver tail leather looks pretty cool.

P.S. If you wanted your name on the inside you could do two things. One buy alphabet leather stamps and stamp your name. Or take a woodburner and use that.

Those straps are all about what a fine watch strap should be. Beautiful, elegant and expensive looking. The higher cost is ok by me. The gator and croc straps they make, as they appear in their photos are quite stunning. Thanks for finding this place Dawg, I see my credit card bill rising a bit now.

I have an OEM Panerai alligator strap in much the same colour as the strap at the top of this thread. It is a very beautiful strap.

But that ABP is even better.

You can choose between hand sewn and machine. I think it is a little more expensive for hand however.

That truly is waaay too much then. I mean even for hand stitch (which btw wouldn't look anywhere near this stitch per inch) $350 is too much. I think you could serve yourself very well with an embossed cowhide for the gator print and wouldn't worry near as much if it got messed up. But if you had to have genuine gator, try going to a local taxidermist and seeing what they can offer, I bet it is much cheaper. Or you could just get the hide from a taxidermist and then send out to one of the custom strap makers on here and I still bet it would be much cheaper. I mean right now you can get that color hide on ebay for $125. If you were to send that to a custom maker and allow them to keep some of the hide, I would think in turn they would quote a lower price for a strap and you are still saving money.
