Picture is of a 127, taken from a gen forum. Notice the spots / speckles on both hands, and the uneven lume on the hour hand.
If genuine pams are this flawed, then we are justified in our hobbies, no? I expected better QC and craftsmanship from Panerai,
at the price they are selling their watches for. I'm disappointed to say the least. So what do you think?

I have a gen 177 and am not dissapointed with the craftmanship...
as a matter of fact, it reduces my interest in reps... (read my prev posts on my BAD REP luck)

..don't get me wrong, I hang out here because I still have interest ;)

Try going to an AD, and try one on. Bring your 10x loupe there if needed

sure its a gen? haha

That was my first thought too: "Is this really a gen?" But then, it was posted in a gen forum and the guy who posted it said its a gen that he just bought. Either he is lying or he got duped? Only he knows. I assume, though, that it is a gen, since I don't know any better myself as I've not seen a gen 127 yet. :(

I just might do that... So are you implying that the picture is not of a gen 127? Have you taken your gen 177 under the "microscope" so to speak and did not notice such flaws as exhibited in the picture of the 127 I posted? Just curious because a lot of people (me included) are ga-ga over pams, and if this is the quality of the gen, then I don't really see any reason people are biting them for big big $$$$$!

Your thoughts mirror mine. All our reps just don't hold up to a gen when compared side by
side, but that does not mean our reps are junks. They just need more "tuning". :)

other than for the fact that gens are pretty exclusive, i honestly dont see the reason why a gen like the 127 would cost close to eight grand new. the movement is stock, the cnc machining for the case is fairly stock for panerai, and most of the other work involved is stock as well. i know exclusivity can be expensive, but could it add three or four grand to a watch?

It can if people are willing to pay it.

Luxury watches that *don't* use in-house movements are horribly overpriced. At least SOME of the price can be justified for an in-house movement if you consider factors like R&D cost recovery, unique features/technology (like Omega's co-axial escapement or Seiko's spring drive). They still have a hefty profit margin, but at least they aren't just prettying up a $50 ETA movement, slapping it in their case and selling it for thousands.

I have two gens and looking over the watches with a 10X loupe the craftsmanship is PERFECT- The hands on my 001 and 104 are crisp and clean- look nothing like my rep hands- But flash photography can adda lot of artifacts that may or may not be there...
