Are Davidsen's 47mm Sapphire's a universal fit?

I have just ordered a Davidsen sapphire for my PAM217 and have been told by a very reliable source that these are not universal fit, they may only fit the 217's and Fiddy's that he sells.

Does anyone know about this? I am worried that I have just spent $85 on something which doesn't fit.

If it doesn't fit, is there any other place I can get one from? Or, am I lumbered with a watch without a crystal?

I believe it is well known that davidsens cases/dails/anything, except the hands are only going to fit his watches. They aren't 1:1 like some dealers have.

I believe it is a well known fact that lots of members with non-Davidsen watches have replaced their Fiddy/217 crystals with Davidsen's sapphire.

You are right about the dials/cases, though, not the same size as other reps.

I don't want to argue with your reliable source, but if you have a #117 pam 127 case, it will fit. Davidsen uses the same cases as everyone else. Don't worry.

Thanks guys - that seems to be 2-1 to the positive. Any other takers?

I've been told by a reliable source (Vacuum) that the Davidsen case is definitely different in size with respect to internal dimensions. His dials are not going to fit exactly into the other Rep cases and vice versa.

Sorry......

If this is true you just saved me some money!. I was gonna try and replace the modern PAM232 dial with one of his vintage ones. Has anyone done this?

It kind of sucks really because no other dealer is making the vintage dials. He kind of has a monopoly in that area, and if his parts aren't interchangable then he truly does have a monopoly.

How does this answer the original question - whether his crystal will fit all fiddy cases?

Someone has not been doing his homework... This horse has already been beaten to death.

In short: His 44 mm dials are slightly larger than the "other dealers" but you can sand them down...

I'm sorry.....I guess it doesn't. I was just trying to state that Davidsen's case is different than everyone else's. The extrernal diamter is the same 44mm, but the internal diamter is different. So anyone else's dial will fit loosely and present a "gap" in a Davidsen case, and a Davidsen dial will be too large for someone else's Rep case.

I can't say with total certainty about the crystal fit. I would just assume that since the Davidsen case is different, that the crystal fit might be less than perfect.

Hopefully Davidsen or one of the Modsters here will step in and clear up the confusion.

Answering the main ? here...I would say the there is no universal fit on the rep world.
I have installed a bunch of Davidsen crystals on "others" cases and the fit varies...some are real tight other a bit less.
Now talking about the dials all davidsen I have seen are a bit bigger ~1mm dia than "others" dials. Just sand em down a bit and ypu are good to go...I really don't like to do it.

Ps. This is my personal experience and opinion....mileage may vary :D

I was not talking about 44mm dials. If you would have read above I was asking about the Radiomir 232 which is a 47mm dial. I apologize if this has been "beaten to death" elsewhere, but I couldn't find any posts regarding it on RWI. I will start my own thread on the subject as I don't want to continue to mess up this one with my questions. Sorry tomhirvin.

The question was whether Davidsen crystal will fit other cases or not? Let's answer it?
As vaccum said, it might vary. But my 111 Jimmyzfu case has a Davidsen sapphire fitted.
I heard the 0117 Fiddy case will also take the Davidsen sapphire. Vaccum just said he installed quite a few already.
And I am about to verify this statement as I am sending my Fiddy to Ziggy for a cannon pin fix and a Davidsen crystal fit.
But I guess you won't wait for the result...

I guess we're just going to have to wait and find out. What your advice has persuaded me to do is have the crystal fitted proffesionally by my watchsmith who's been in business since the early 60's.

Desptite constantly tell me to stop bringing in my "chinese rubbish", he is happy to work on them, and if he can't fit it I don't think anyone can.

I shall let you know how I get on. Who knows I may be walking around soon wearing a PAM217 with a cellophane front.

To back up what Vacuum said, he has installed a Davidsen 127 crystal on to a throwaway Trustywatchguy 127 case. In fact he fitted it to 2 different Andrew 127 cases. So it can work. "CAN" being the operational word here.
