AR coat or Not on a DWN Pam 111H

So the AR coating (blue or purple) can be a dead give away on a rep. DSN makes custom watches.

Should a watch be ordered with AR coating or without?

If I get the watch w/AR and hate it, I could always have Cheiftang put his double AR on it. Will the Double AR by Cheiftang get rid of the blue/purple-ish glare?

That depends. Some of DSN's AR crystals have been a very slight blue, and quite correct compared to *some* Panerai models.

Having said that - the AR coatings of most gen Panerai are VERY subtle and not terribly effective. They are not like the double AR Breitlings and Omegas you see. So, going with no AR is not as out there for a Panerai as it would be for some other watches.

I am also not sure if you have the option to order with or without AR from DSN, or any dealer for that matter.

Yes, DSN offers non-AR crystals, as all of his Pre-V, Pre-A, A and B series reps should be without AR. It would be a custom order to get a 111 with no AR, but he could certainly do it if requested.

You are correct, however, in that no other dealers offer non-AR coated crystals. It is just another in the long list of things that only DSN has.

Hmmm, I dunno. I have avatars and signatures shut off in my User CP. My guess would be that the setting was lost during the transition to the new software. I'll put it back...

Finally someone talked about this issue. Because it seams kinda funny when so many people are crazy about relatively small and hard to detect imperfections, but they completely forget that their (blue or purple) crystal screams "fake" loud and clear to everyone.

So I'm also very interested in being able to order my next PAM without AR, unless someone can make one with it that looks at least remotely close to gen.

Actually it has been talked about a lot in the past. Most "perfectionists" have just resorted to removing the AR themselves (Dremel buffing it out), some send their crystals to Chieftain for double AR coating, etc. However, the factories still buy crystals from wherever, and don't really care what AR is on it. So far anyway.

I would add that double AR is incorrect, also. It looks great, but it's not accurate.

DSN w/o AR coating

If I get a watch w/o AR coating from DWN, then will the light just reflectt from the lens and make it difficult to see the dial? I know that cheap glass will reflect light.

Yes, the crystals with no AR coating can make it more challenging to see the dial in certain light. FWIW, Rolex doesn't (and never has) used AR coatings on any of their watches. I think the GMT IIC has just the cyclops AR coated? Anyway, if the most recognized luxury watch company in the world doesn't use it, it can't be that bad to go without.

I have a couple of DSN watches with no AR and I don't find it to be an issue with readability.

Just to be sure : there's no "fake blue" reflection at all on these watches of yours?

And what special technology Panerai uses with their AR? None of gen pieces i ever tried had that dreadful blue reflection.

Correct, the non-AR crystals from DSN have no blue reflection whatsoever.

Panerai doesn't use any special technology, they just use real, high quality anti-reflective coatings.

not really, but my personal preference is with very light blue AR, which DSN has..

For you to decide: They are not 111 but will give you the idea if you go for AR coatings.

Who is DSN and where can we see what he's selling? Does he sell modified watches?

They are from TCStraps MP line. On 196 is MPXI in palombari tan and on CF dial is GeF Palombari Tan.

The MP ages very very well. One of the most comfortable and nicest looking strap I have ever owned.
