As part of my ongoing collection refresh, I am offering for your consideration a stunning Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15500OR build. This timepiece has been a cherished part of my personal collection for several months but, regrettably, hasn’t received the wrist time it deserves lately.
The base for this build is the highly regarded APSF model featuring the updated black dial, and the wonderful A4302 movement. This is the model with the updated dial, which has a gorgeous sunburst effect and dynamic light play that surpasses previous DP iterations, making it a standout piece.
To elevate this watch both visually and functionally, a few key modifications were undertaken:
- Full Refinish of Case and Bracelet
Out of the box, AP reps often benefit most greatly from a refinish. Here, the case and bracelet were professionally refinished to soften sharp edges and improve wearability. The bracelet is now sleek, fluid, and features excellent articulation. Image Post Polish (Note visible areas where the watch has been polished and the edges softened)
- Professional Gold Wrapping
The entire watch was disassembled completely and professionally gold-wrapped via electroplating—inside and out. Every part, including the bezel bolts (now in white gold) and bracelet screws, has been plated. Side by side with gen, the color is perfect, and the difference is evident with the post-refinish/pre-plating images - Rotor Polish and Gold Wrap
APSF stock has a yellow-gold rotor that is incorrect. They have still not fixed this flaw, and I have yet to see anyone else perform a replate on the rotor. During the movement disassembly, the rotor was removed, lightly polished, and gold-wrapped.
As with every build I do for myself, I am very particular to the details. This is a great addition to any collection and is the best rep of this watch you can have, before something tungsten comes out.
