Big disclaimer up front, I have no experience with AP watches, replica or gen, so this is mainly going to be focused on the merits of the watch itself as a watch with my thoughts as an enthusiast who has a few reps and a bunch of gen watches.

I'm very happy with this watch. I have been wanting a stainless steel sports watch with a '70s vibe and had been looking at some gen watches (nothing in the AP range) when I decided that this was cheap enough to at least give it a shot. Overall the finishing is fantastic, the weight is pleasing, the bracelet is comfortable, and the dial is gorgeous. It does have some sharp edges on the case and bracelet, but from what I have read, it seems like this can be the case for gen as well. Sizing it was a breeze, the screws were not stubborn at all. I had to remove 1 link for a comfortable fit on my 8" wrist. I will note that the AP sizing method was unexpected and interesting, while not troublesome. The crown screws in and out easily and the date and time setting works as expected. I will note that the slow date change bothered me more than I expected last night. As has been reported, it begins changing around 10. The bracelet moves smoothly and the clasp is satisfying.

The dial is an absolute work of art. On the wrist or even close up with the naked eye, you can't tell or appreciate the level of detail. It just looks like a field of shimmery squares, but with a macro lens you can really appreciate the work that has gone into this. Is it gen like? I'll leave that for you to decide, but I think it's beautiful and absolutely appreciate it for what it is.

The movement looks nicely finished. With the macro lens some scrapes are visible on the rotor over the "Audemars Piguet". I can't see this at all with the naked eye, so I have included a pic from farther back so that you can get an idea of what it actually looks like. Since I received it yesterday it has been beating away very accurately. The hand-winding is not as smooth as I'd hope. It does feel a little gritty and rough when hand winding. Will that be an issue? Is it gen-like? No idea on either. In another thread someone had mentioned that the rotor doesn't seem heavy enough and that it's sluggish in its movement. I can see what they're talking about. The rotor definitely does not rotate as freely as the rotor in some of my other watches. I can only imagine this being a problem with the power reserve while off the wrist, and if it does become an issue, a hand wind will definitely sort it out quickly. The last thing I'll mention about the movement is that a low-beat movement doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I understand that this is true to gen, but I like a very smooth sweep. This is fine, not really as jarring as I expected.

So, that's it. It may have some flaws or "tells" which might differentiate it from the gen watch, but I'm personally unconcerned with them because as a timepiece this stands on its own two feet. I think it looks great and I'm loving wearing it. If you'd like any other looks at the watch or have any questions about my experience with it, please don't hesitate to ask.

S/o to Li jtimewatch for another fantastic watch and great service.

Finally, thanks to all the experts in this section for sharing your expertise and knowledge. Thanks to your contributions and input I felt confident making my first rep AP purchase.

Very nice review and very well put without pointless assumptions on how gen like it can be.

Glad that you like it, the 15400 is a wonderful watch (of course I'm very biased ;)) and this looks like a great rep of it.

Wear it in good health and thank you for taking the time!

Where I need to be.
I like your straightforward and non-pretentious review.
Anyone reading your review seeking to buy the same watch should learn to enjoy the watch like you do: as it is without worrying whether it is "close to gen".
It is well-written and very helpful from an owner's point of view, no "expert knowledge" necessary.

Thank you for your effort and pictures. I am going to sticky it for a few days.

Thanks for this honest review, that concentrates on the basic questions and is absolutely free from nitpicking. I like that. And I like the watch too, I have the blue one from this APSF-Line. It is interesting, that the finish quality of the movement seems to differ. Your model has some scrapes at the "Audemars Piguet", mine has a kind of smear at the big "AP" on the rotor and I have seen other APSFs without any irregularities in the movement finish. But that are also points, that you wont see with your naked eyes and for me not so important. All in all it is a great watch and the dial is a real beauty.

This is the kind of review that makes me want to try new brands (new for me of course). I’ve been trying to stay away from AP’s but you guys aren’t helping at all.

:bounce:

Thanks for sharing and hope you keep enjoying your watch.

Thanks for putting this review together. Very well written and very helpful for anybody who is undecided to pull the trigger. With your review one has a very good impression of what to expect and wether it is worth a try.

Like others already pointed out, I also enjoy reading reviews like yours because of its straightforward approach of a fellow watch enthusiast and wearer. While knowing all about a watches flaws compared to gen tends to take away from the joy of wearing it, your review vividly shows the appreciation of what it is: An absolute beauty of a watch!

Love your description of the dial. It really helps me to imagine how it must be to the naked eye as I can imagine how hard it is to capture its appearance in a photo.

Nice review!

I ordered the same watch and dial colour, its really nice. Very good value.

I had an OEM dial on hand to fit but was surprised how close APS got the dial, it's very similar.

I did note when the watch was first shown by dealers, the logo on the crown was towards one side, I had hoped they would fix on release and when peoples pics started coming in it seemed better, and yours looks good.

Mine must be early stock as the logo is more to the right than centred, a very small detail, but as I invested in the OEM dial, I would like to fix that. I do wonder if an OEM crown would fit the thread.

Pic below has yours on the right, mine on the left in comparison to the original.

Thanks so much, it's an honor to be featured this way!

Thanks for all of the positive feedback, I'm very glad that this is helpful to some of you, it only goes a short way towards repaying all of the fantastic input and information I've received on this forum.

I fully agree with the above, your review is exactly the kind that makes people think and make their decisions and assumptions for them selfs. I bought a blue version, im looking to get this white version as well, as with JF ‘400s that was the best dial option by far and judging from your photos and from what I’ve been able to see elsewhere, it seems to be true again with APFS. Provided, the blue dial is much better than previous JF versions as well.

Thanks for your time and effort on this and if you dont mind, I’d add my 2 cents in your thread after couple more days with my piece as well. :)

Great Review! I have been wanting the blue dial but have been somewhat hesitant bc of my 7 3/4 wrist. Looks like it fits you well.
