I hate to disappoint you, but I doubt any replica of that watch, if it is even doable in China, will be any good or even suitable as a daily beater. You have chosen one of the more technically challenging models released by AP this year.

But the only difference is the dial right? Everything else is the same and its thin which is also hard to rep i guess

Yup, pretty much. The original rep tourbillon is pretty much identical except for the dial change here.

Very doable and will be up there with the best. Only difference from current AP tourbillon rep is the radial tap. Technically challenging? Nope. We have double tourbillons now, remember?

Are people here saying that the Chinese factories can release the above model with the 9mm thickness of the ultra-thin gen? That would be amazing, as most of the existing rep AP RO tourbies are 12.5mm thick...

ZF was supposedly working on one. Not sure if its 9mm thick, but I believe they got it down to 10mm.

I managed to see that in person. The colour on the dial is astonishing, no photo will be able to capture it fully. I highly doubt any rep will come remotely close to it (they can do the tourby but the dial is another matter entirely)

I was curious if this was true. From what I can gather, R8 is only group that is making the Tourby. ZF or any other people will be purchasing it from them.
so the thickness for all AP RO will be 12.5mm -ish. . ZF list only the case which will be 9.5mm ish , add the back and bezel and it will also be 12.5 +
Reason, for only 1 factory making is cost of tourby movement, they dont want to invest and compete with each other.

I would like to see the tourby movement in action. i'm hoping its reasonably good rep and isn't noisy. crossing my fingers.

I had the old TF tourby (it's in my avatar image) and it was pretty decent, albeit a bit thick. I actually like the "noisy" ticking it produced. Had the best PR and accuracy of any watch I've owned.

ZF making the AP tourbillon was mentioned by Angus probably over a year ago. Whether or not that project comes to fruition is anyone's guess at this point :)

it was JF not ZF, and they actually showed a prototype movement. hopefully JF decides to do the new line...

Ah yes, my mistake. I used to think ZF was a crap factory, but now I think I'd almost have them try it VS JF.

Did anyone ever pick one of these up? R8 that is? I have not seen anything from JF still...
