I'm new to the replica watch game. The one thing i am curious about is it at all possible to source a geniune AP perpetual calendar moonphase disc? Money aside, is it even possible to find this? Should i even bother going through this process?
Thank you for that information. It was what i expected, but just wanted to be sure. I will commission a custom disc, will have to find someone who can do it. To me, this is the only part of the replica version i cannot deal with and would affect my enjoyment. It's worth the cost to me to fix that one part to be honest. I havent had a chance to see the moonphase in person, but based on 4k videos i've seen the real one is gorgeous when the light hits it.Possible? Yes. Likely? Hell no.
The GEN watches are extremely rare and limited. Not to mention expensive. So Id say you have a better chance of winning the lottery.
But it is technically possible.
If you want improve the one that the rep perp has, your best bet is comissioning s custom overlay/disc.
Thats actually not unreasonable given the rarityive seen one on Chrono24 older model but the cost was 7k for the dial
it was in bad shapeThats actually not unreasonable given the rarity

Okay thats good to hear, i'm not expecting a 1:1 and the flaws i'm aware of are okay with me. Based on your feedback getting someone to create it is going to be the most economical and realistic option, which i'm prepared to do. I do agree that for the price, it does look very good. Is the weight near idenitical since the case and bracelet are full ceramic?I had the CHS version, it is not as bad as it seems on video. Your eye cant see that great of a detail.
I have to say, the PP moonphase on 5712 is a bit better, but the AP is ok.
Also, it is not the only flaw by far. But for 600-700 bucks, its a damn good watch.
Lastly, older versions have different discs.
Yes i know lol i've been searching for a week and there is no modern perpetual calendar dial or disc available that i could findThats a dial, not a moonphase disc.![]()
Got it makes sense, is the thicker caseback one of the easy tells or is it more imperceptible? I know the back of the watch is an instant tell, but based on the eye test, were there any dead giveaways you found? I don't plan on portraying this as real at all, just curious as i have had a replica before and there was a flaw on the dial that was obvious enough i could see it everytime i looked at the piece and it affected my enjoyment.Nearly. It has a thicker caseback, but no gold is used in the actual watch, so it sort of balances out.
Yes that's right, the dial flaws are all very obvious if you look at the watch for more than a few seconds and study it. I'm happy to hear about the wearability, i plan on wearing this on a semi-daily basis. My OCD and my gen background does not allow me to not study everything and compare lol
If you know AP, the dial is a giveaway, if you look at it for too long, the moondisc is, the fact week hand behaves like gmt hand, leap-year hand is stuck to the month hand and moves with it, etc etc.
Caseback is thicker by about 1,5mm so not really an issue and it, surprisingly, does not create the uncomfortable “too high” feeling of earlier JF 15400 ROs. Its really comfy and very wearable.
The ceramic is also a big step up in the rep world. Now Im just waiting for the coloring to come, I want a blue one.![]()
Good point i'll reserve my judgment for when i actually see it in person, but i have to say i am anticipating the piece much more now than i was before. I appreciate the suggestion and will be going with it. To me that upgrade will be worth the time and cost and will probably be the only modification i do to it and i plan on daily wearing this piece for a long time. The sparkle is very hard to catch on photos.
Imo it is the better part of the disc.
The gen is layered and has much better printing, so rep is never going to compete. Hence the custom overlay I mentioned.
