Hello all, I have a question regarding the AP ROO OFFSHORE RUBBERCLAD with sec@12. I noticed that the second hand jumps around a bit and does not sweep smoothly, is this normal with this movement? and can it be fixed to sweep smooth?

Also will a OEM AP ROO rubber strap fit to the head as normal?

Thanks
Regards.

Im no expert on the AP's but browse the AP section and you will find a ton of info regarding the sec@12 issue.
It WILL need to be modded one way or the other im afraid.

And yes, the strap should fit without a problem unless someone screwed up badly, just take meassure and email them to be on the safe side!

Dont know where your located, if in europe you can contact Domi here on forum for modding of the movemen to fix the sec@12 issue.

Just have a look under modding section here at RWI. :)

Goodluck.

Thanks for the response. Is the jumping seconds hand something that can be fixed with the service of the movement? As far as i thought the only problem was the power reserve of the movement not lasting?

I have two: a black dial Rubberclad and a Navy Themes. They are not the smoothest of sweeps, no doubt. I believe it has to do with the mechanism that moves the seconds from 9 to 12. It adds a step to the process which in turn causes the stutter to the sweep. Depending on where you are, there's a mod on this forum who works on the seconds at 12 movement and his name is G 14060 or 16610 is his user name and he is in the Mod section --I probably have the numbers of his name messed up, but if you look you will find him. He does excellent work and as soon as my APs need it I will send them to him for servicing.

Hey thanks for the response, I've have already emailed him so hopefully he can resolve this for me. Does his service fix this problem? Will he be able to get the second hand from not jerking, It's not really bad its more noticable between the 40-60 second mark. Do you have the same problem on both of your models?

Yes, very typical for this movement, I personally would get it sent to Domi for mods.

The problem is I am in the states. I think he is only accepting EU members and service now. Can you confirm?

A serviced seconds at 12 will run smoother -- I'm not sure it will totally eliminate the jumpy, but I've seen both and it does make a difference. One of mine I believe was serviced because I bought it from a guy who bought from a guy who always has his watches serviced. It sure seems serviced because it is much smoother :) If I was you, I wouldn't want to mess with customs, so if you can get it done in the states I would.

Is your watch keeping good time, mb? If it is, give it some time and see how it works over the course of time. How long have you had it? And finally, how much do you love the thing? All of these things must be taken into consideration when discussing AP's. They are definitely not the "easiest" reps in the world, are they? :)

Hello mattyd. I have had the watch about 2 or 3 weeks. It's running great, no complaints other then that. I Also keep it on a watch winder, don't know if that helps but it's keeping good time spot on.

Keeping it on a winder is a good thing. The less you have to monkey with the movement the better. If it's keeping good time, then leave it be. Generally, if it's going to act up, it starts with running slower. These watches and movements are hit and miss -- some guys have terrible luck and have to get the movement serviced right away. Some never have a problem with them. But, remember, all automatic watches eventually have to be serviced -- and it's especially true of the AP reps. I bought them baking the servicing into the price -- and that is no problem for me because they are my favorite reps...

Thanks mattyd, problem is the second hand is driving me crazy. I have it in a wolf design four watch winder next to 3 gen panerai's this is my first rep. So seeing my second hands on my pams running smooth is getting to me!

Try to remember, man, you're dealing with a rep. You've only had gens and if you are going to compare the two, you're going to be very disappointed. Do you have the white dial or the black dial???

I have the black dial. I really liked both but finally choose the black face. I'm not really comparing just wishing it would move the same as it does 1-40. There is a slight tick which is fine then it gets really rough.
