Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie here, I would like to purchase my first rep and I'm interested in the AP ROO Safari but I'm confused which one to get.

I read that MBW(sec@9) has a more reliable movement, does that mean it doesn't need to be serviced?

Which one has a better dial? seems like the sec@12 subdial is white while the MBW version is silver (I think I can live with sec@9 inaccuracy)

Also, which trusted dealer can source MBW version? (I only found Narikaa so far)

If I buy the sec@12 I would get an HKtan hornback strap and get it serviced.

So, if you guys have experienced with both, please give me some advise

Thanks

It looks like you know a lot more than you are letting on! I have two ROO's -- A navy themes and a black dial rubberclad. Love the watches (and they are both seconds@12) and have had no problems. However, they could both go crazy tomorrow in which case I will have to shell out the dough to get them serviced by G (a mod on this forum). They just keep chugging along so far though :D

Now, as far as your question goes, yes the seconds @9 (MBW) is much more reliable. If you don't mind the flaw, you should get that one. Every other aspect of the MBW is very nice (dial, case, bracelet) Apparently, even the date window is closer to gen than the others. Where to get the MBW? I'm not really sure -- they turn up on the sales forums not really regularly, but ocassionally. Someone will chime in here with a little more info on who sells them, I'm sure.

And by the way, I can tell you did a lot of research and that's great. You'll see guys here appreciate that. :D Good luck and welcome!

I have a black themes sec @ 12 and a safari MBW.
In my opinion the MBW may be better in some areas but not in others.

Main issues with the sec@12 are
1) It's already expensive out of the box
2) It will need servicing due to the issues with the movement
3) the crystal has a lot of glare and so will need AR treatment
4) crown is stiff so it is hard to set and get going

Main issues with MBW are
1) The seconds run in the 3 sub-dial, but it looks like a mistake. The most obvious of flaws for any un-trained eye
2) It can be difficult to get parts and straps (although the MBW hornback seems to look great - my safari is on a bracelet)
3) The screws on the bezel are not as nicely fixed as the cartel, so all in all it really does not look as good as the @12

HOWEVER the total cost of an acceptable @12 will be a lot higher and the movement not as good.
I have learnt to live with my MBW and probably wear it more than the Black Themes.
In addition I got mine in a private sale and it was a lot cheaper.

The MBW you can get in BkK in the MBK center, first floor, across from KFC.
Price is 14k baht.

The latest releases of the sec @12 have an improved movemet, the fab has added a jewel to the transfer gear.

Thanks for the info guys, the dealer I found wants 455GBP for the MBW safari, I guess it's cheaper to get the sec@12 with HKtan hornback strap
