Hello all,

This is my 1st post. I'm not entireley new to the rep world having owned Omega Seamaster GMT and Planet Ocean reps. The GMT died (not worth fixing) and I sold the UPO to part finance a pre-owned Gen Omega Seamaster Pro quartz (the most accurate watch I've ever owned).

Anyway, at the holiday village in Turkey where my family and I were staying (only returned late last week), there was a shop selling rep watches. A quick look round suggested they weren't great quality, but not too bad - they were also far cheaper than I could purchase on the net from here in the UK. In the shop window there was a watch that just grabbed my attention and I found myself returning a couple of times to look at it. Turned out be an AP Royal Oak Offshore Survivor Limited Edition (quartz movement - so I suspected it wouldn't be a good quality rep), the chap in the shop offered it at a good price (after some friendly haggling), I then noticed one of the bezel hex screws had a small flaw, it was the only one he had so he offered me an additional discount. I bought the watch knowing nothing about AP, I just liked the watch for what it was.

When I got home I did a bit of web research and realised the watch I have must be a 'fantasy' rep of the all black ltd edition (the version with the chrono 'pusher' guards). It has a black ceramic (I think) bezel with titanium hex screws, the pushers and crown are black, rose 'gold' body and pusher guards and rose 'gold' buckle on a rubber strap. The case back is titanium. The face is black with 2 black chrono dials and one silver. I think there are some obvious flaws, the hour chrono dial has no numerals and the chrono dials are too close together.

I wore the watch to work today and was surprised at the positive attention the watch got, this pleased me because (sad as I perhaps am) I prefer the colour scheme of mine to the all black gen. Bottom line, I love the watch flaws, warts and all.

Anyone else ever seen this rep version before?

Seems like a good buy to me, how much did you exactly get it for?

Hi deloreandmc,

I paid £50 sterling (cash), and was given a free spare battery.

A bit more background. My faimily and I were staying in a large 'all inclusive' holiday complex in Turkey. I'm sure many will know that replicas abound in Turkish street markets, however, I was surprised that there was a small shop selling replica watches in the main reception area of the hoilday village.

I got talking to the guy who ran the shop, he wasn't 'pushy' and was quite happy for people to browse. I had a look at a rep Omega SMP which had the usual flaws, the shop owner asked me if I was interested and I told him I had a gen (didn't have it with me) and showed him the key flaws on the rep. Frankly, he was fascinated which led me to believe he didn't know a huge amount about gens.

He was honest enough, there was no attempt to pass off a rep as a gen and he knew enough to point out the quartz's from auto's. I asked him if he sourced the watches from China and he was adamant he didn't (he did say where he got them from, but I had difficulty understanding the country name).

When I said in my 1st post the reps weren't great quality, that perhaps paints an incorrect picture. What I meant was that a fair few of his watches had quartz movements, and I'm sure some (like mine) were 'fantasy' reps. Having said that, the build qaulity of the watches looked excellent and I have no complaints about mine. Apart from one hex screw having a small blemish (which I spotted), there are no scratches, all the screws are tight, hands and markers all line up and accuracy is better than my casio pro trek.

At the time I took it with a pinch of salt when he said he didn't source the watches from China, however, I'm now not so sure as I've not (yet) found anyone selling my particular 'fantasy' rep.

I can probably find it, AP expert, picture?
