hey guys, so i recently "modded" my rep hornback strap recently&kinda like the results. thus, i'm currently in search of a Black Hornback strap with Black stitching.

did a little bit of research&reading, which let me to Mario(Orloff) & Donerix(Hamilton).

question is, i cant decide between the 2!

i was looking around for hornback straps below 150USD but they were not available(apart from toro's latest offering of straps, which i find too crooked for my liking&they arent available in black stitch as well)

thus i decided to bump up my budget a lil to 180USD&landed with the above mentioned. the rest were a lil out of budget just to try them out.

pls post ur pics of straps made by the above 2 & ur experiences with them. also, any other recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

Both makers do an amazing quality job as a strapmaker, you will not be disappointed.

IMO Mario is better at custom orders than Eric. Eric's straps could be easier to buy in his regular sales he puts up on RWI/RG/RWG.

Where do you live? Mario ships/works in Italy, whereas Eric in Nicaragua, which can make a difference in terms of shipping costs and time. Actually a lot.

hi karesz, thanks for the reply. i'm located in Singapore.

they both have quoted me for standard shipping, i believe.

&eric, didnt have any straps that i was looking for so his quote was based on a custom order. which is actually quite a lil different frm the sales he posts up.

btw, here're some pics of my "modded" rep hornback :D

I got a hornback strap from Mario few months ago and I would say that quality of his strap is value for the price of it, fitting of the strap is real easy without any fuss and it does fit nicely.

From order to hands on around 2 weeks time which I consider it fast.

Hey man you really can't go wrong. I have a black Donerix with white stitching for sale if you're interested. It's a little long but looks georgeous.

In my opinion Donerix is one of the BEST values out there....He makes a quality product at a great price point.

My experience with Orloff is also superb, he made me a strap for my Montauk...

As Orloff pastes his hornbacks onto a different leather (most hornback strap makers do this, however I do not think Donerix does), one buyer had a problem with the horn peeling off. I have had no such issues to date, so I wholeheartedly recommend him!!

No problem,

I think it's also VERY important to add that Orloff uses plastic inserts for the lug settings, which is something Donerix never does. To each his own -- the inserts make for a more 'rigid' connection that lacks flexibility, but it does look a touch cleaner.

I have 4 straps from Mario, they are great, you cannot go wrong. He uses an insert at the end of the strap, Do does not and I have not seen one strap
which fits perfect. So Orloff is your man. I had one problem with one of my starps, I returned it, he fixed it and sent me an additional new one.
That is customer service.

Donerix is working on AP straps with inserts, so I would probably wait around to see what they're like

Mario is great to work with, quick shipping, easy payment and the fit @lugs was fantastic, I just found his straps a little too stiff for me to wear

thanks guru&sharrkey!! i am leaning towards Mario a lil more for a couple of reasons:-

1) inserts.
2) hornbacks which he has appeals a lil more to me than Eric's.

but wow, they're all fantastic strap pics!

btw, anyone has serge D's hornback(not baby hornback) straps.? i cldnt find them on his section in rwg..

As Orloff pastes his hornbacks onto a different leather (most hornback strap makers do this, however I do not think Donerix does), one buyer had a problem with the horn peeling off. I have had no such issues to date, so I wholeheartedly recommend him!!

They aren't pasted on. It is genuine whatever species of crocodilian leather (caiman, croc, gator) with a horn cosmetically enhanced under the leather. The same way I do mine, however I do not know whether he uses American alligator or not.

Between the two I would suggest Orloff due to the use of inserts. Without the inserts you're fitment on the lugs will always leave something to be desired. Just my 2c.

I might be a bit out of your budget, however I may have an extra black w/ black stitch available ~$200. I cut the buckle end about 3-4mm too narrow, so the deployant bar shows a little on each side. Not a big deal, but I cannot sell it at regular price.

hey migliore, thanks for the offer but i must respectfully decline.

i DID consider getting yours but unfortunately, i'm cutting down on my overall watch spending due to some family crisis. but i will shoot u a PM if i can afford to spend a little bit more.

plus, i'd mind the mentioned issue, in all honesty&i prefer having a fixed&floating keeper option :)

but again thanks!

another maker i have in question is Jacob Straps, i cant find much info on his pricing&availability. found his site but cant understand its language.

No problem mate. Sorry to hear your having family issues. Best wishes & good luck w/ your strap hunt.

By the way.. I do make them with fixed keepers if requested.

That's a good dilemma to be in :hehehe:
You can have my HKtan black on white stitch for the black theme that I have not been using.
