I am somewhat familiar with the Sea-gull movement, mad by the Tianjin Watch Factory in China. By way of overview, the movement is a LICENSED copy of a Venus 150/175 from the mid-1960s... the Chinese bought the tooling in the mid-1970s, when many of the Swiss were liquidating their machinery in anticipation of a a "new" quartz industry. The movement is proven, and currently in over a dozen different brands. Unlike the unlicensed Valjoux 7750 clones, which are made in a sea of small, cottage industry workshops in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Tianjin Watch Factory is a LARGE, state owned entity, which manufactures over 25% of the WORLD'S mechanical movements, although most are for domestic consumption. They have a note-worthy history, being once one of the jewels of Chinese industry... in a way, it is comparable to the Poljot brand of the former Soviet Union.
Current production includes a whole bunch of domestic designs, as well as a few which are derivative of ETA and Venus movements. Overall, I would say the quality of their movements are at least on par with mechanical movements from Miyota (Citizen), if not better. Sadly, the same cannot be said for the 7750-clones.
