Anyone ever install gen movements?

Knowing that everyone is always trying to get as close to gen as possible, I was wondering if anyone has ever installed a gen movement into one of our reps? Are they even available? Cost prohibitive? Just won't fit?

I was thinking mainly about the "H" sword swan neck movement, since our rep movements seem like a dead give away.

Thanks for any input.

You'll never find a GEN movement for sale. Unless you buy a GEN and scavenge the movement for your REP

LOl, well, I thought that might be the case, and doing something like that certainly wouldn't make any sense! I suppose the factory does not sell replacement movements

I was actually considering doing the same thing, in my Breitling instead of PAM though. A gen ETA 7750 though has different hands, and with Breitlings iron curtain over their parts getting a workable set of hands is damn near impossible so I'm stuck with having to use the rep 7750 w/ a gen dial and ETA datewheel for now.

Hah....you got me!! I meant to say that you won't find a GEN Panerai movement for sale. I too have seen other GEN movements, but not Panerai. Even a GEN dial is in the vicinity of $500 or so. For that kind of money, get the GEN.

I should preface what I said since technically speaking, the Swiss 6497 is the movement used in GEN Panerai. However, Panerai would never sell the Panerai decorated and embellished movements alone. So getting the correct CDG or engraved movement is the difficulty. That said, I really like the latest G and H/I series Swiss movements. They look really nice and function perfectly.

That's one of the beefs that purist watch lovers have with Panerai. Why spend so much money on a watch that is based on the Swiss/Unitas 6497?? Why, cuz we love the look and feel of a big, chunky watch.

No, you got me. I should read more carefully, did not realise it was in Panerai section... :D
But what about Angulus/Rolex/Cortebert mvmts? These were used in gens as well...
Pretty tough finding one never the less... :?

Can't remember the thread exactly, but there was a guy who put his Gen PAM movement in a 217 rep and got called out when he posted on Paneristi. I think he put the rep movement in a base Luminor and tried to sell that.

I remember that. Made no sense at all. I don't get people posting REPs over on the Risti site. Maybe it's just for the possible thrill of getting caught???
