Any recommended tweaks to a V4 PAM 111?

Hi all,

This morning I happily received my first PAM - predictably I went for the 111 as my starter model. Doesn't seem much point in a review - I suspect ALE's guide is a little more comprehensive than mine would be!

I'm loving it - with the only only negative thought being that the crystal could be better...

Is upgrading the crystal a common recommendation on these models?

cheers!

Yeah , send to Marlin and have him do his mods on the movement then it will be identical to a genuine Panerai - ETA 6497-2 (basically IMPOSSIBLE to find nowadays)

Yes I'm interested in what's wrong with the crystal as well, I can't see anything wrong with mine.

I’ve relaxed about it now I’ve been wearing the watch for a few days, but the crystal certainly isn’t almost invisible like I expect it is on a gen.

(But I haven’t actually seen a gen PAM close up and have only just started getting into them. Maybe the crystals on PAMs are meant to have a little reflection?)

Are you talking about the AR (anti-reflective) treatment?

I'm unsure of what AR treatment if any that the Gens have but I don't recall any comments on there being anything wrong with the 111 Rep with regards the AR so I suspect the Gen is the same.

Thanks. I think you’re most likely right there. It’s a great piece.

Gen crystal is NOT invisible mate.

You can add a profS x2AR invisible crystal if you want to deviate from OEM look.

The reflections on the rep crystals are as per gen OEM. They compliment the reflections from the polished case. It is the design intent of Panerai.

You are contradicting yourself by stating all gens have amazing AR then using an example that has no AR.

Are you talking about all luxury watches? Rolex does not use AR on their watches I think. And then the 15400 as you say does not have it. As for PAMs, historically, they have not always had good AR. Some of them had bluish or purplish AR, inconsistent even in the same model. Only a few years back did they finally use a colorless AR and have been more consistent.

I think it's just a typo/autocorrect. I think he meant, 'not all gen have amazing AR.'

I meant “not all”, I swear my phone auto corrects “not” “can’t” out of my sentences

It may be, but rather than guessing if it was autocorrected, I just base on what's posted. Which is why I check my sentences before pressing, especially when viewing from a phone, precisely because of autocorrect.

I would suggest removing "it" out of the suggestions for the word "not". Or you may have typed in "ot" instead of "not" and the phone changed the word to "it". ;)
