Had a quick reply from DSN after I contacted him yesterday (thanks COLDI for the pointer) looking for a god quality black Panerai.

Quote is $720 shipped (about £463)

This is my first purchase, and don't want to make a rookie error. Is there anything about this sale that would put a seasoned RWI'er off any of these?

What's the differences between the 3? Just some colouring and the dial feature?

Looks much better - think it's just because of the light/photoshop job that makes it look better finished. Or should you expect a replica to look less impressive in real life?

OK...all three are different...a big one is the A has the T SWISS MADE T, newer models have the L SWISS MADE L.

Power reserve indicators looks different be it the hand, or dial printing

I would honestly go with the A series but I just like pre-v's

What's different? The dials are different between all three. The PR hand is different on the A series. The PR scale is different between the B and C series. Not sure what you're asking here?

If you're asking which one *I* would buy, it'd be the 028A.

Pantina on the A series is different too. Man I really want one of these!

Cheers for the replies. Is the finish/coating similar to the one Panerai use? If you held the gen and rep together, would the finish be a lot different?

And what about the A, how you guys all chose the A out of the 3? Was that a stylistic choice or a quality choice?

I'll go for PAM28A.

4 mods needed if you want it looks more closer to the gen article.

- thicker font datewheel (you may want to contact takashi)
- thicker crown (the best is old non spring loaded T48 crown if you can find it)
- thicker caseback with correct font size engraving (DSN's caseback is correct but the font size is too small. you may want to contact jakob)
- thicker crown guard (DSN's is too slim)

Here's a pic of my modded PAM27A

and a gen pic for comparo

-Notice the thick date font which is not display in full due to the smaller date window on the gen is

- Yellowish / off white / cream color lume on the gen. One of the main reason why I choose A series because I prefer the vintage look.

Hope the above helps

That was really helpful thanks! I knew there were some differences my eye just wasn't trained enough to spot them!

Okay great, well back to researching and emailing to see how much the modding would add to the cost, reckon I'd skip the caseback mod for now to save money. It's looking a bit too close to 1k already, so I might end up leaving it and going for a titanium rep if that's cheaper (they can look pretty stealthy too, which I like).

Not going to give up yet though, thanks again!

(Your Pan rep looks the sort of amazing I'm after btw! Congrats)

DSN's PVD coating is the best "out of the box" PVD out there, without question.

It needs to be smoothed down with a cape cod cloth to get it even closer to gen appearance.

It's not cheap, but the great reps never are. Make no mistake, this is a GREAT rep.
