Any 029M GMT movement tips?

Having just got my 029M back from repair and it's a perfect gem and I want it to stay that way! In this regard, I was wondering if anyone can offer some advice or do's and don'ts with reference to this movement? For example:-

- Is there a proper method to setting the GMT time?

- Should you wait for the GMT hand to 'Click' before leaving it?

- Should you only set the GMT hand on the hour?

Any help or a simple guide would be most useful.

Thanks :)

To set the GMT time, you have to turn the crown backward in the date set position.

You can set it at the time you wish, no problem.

Before I sent mine back for repair, it had developed all sorts of issues including that it was scrubbing the paint off the Datewheel as it turned! I am not sure of the gearing but the GMT being on the same stem setting as the Datewheel caused me to at least look closer at what could have gone wrong. Hopefully, it was just a bad egg.

The A2836 with GMT mod has the occasional keyless works issue. But this is easily reset by a good watchsmith.

It can be fickle to get it bang on. The key that I found was to set the watch to the top of the hour, then set the GMT as Evora suggested, but before you lock it down, turn the opposite way to just nudge the date dial a hair and then lock it down. I'm not sure why but it's resolved the issue for me when setting the 029 for me. Keeps bang on now, when it was always seeming to lag behind the normal time a bit.

Mine is due back from a full service and part repair from UK watch services [TM on here]. Hope it stays ok after spending an extra £100!

Problems first started with mine when the hour and minute hands wouldn't go past midnight [fine at 12am]. Then suddenly the date got stuck mid change and wouldn't move.

The repair guy said there was an issue with the date rubbing with the hands, so i hope it's now resolved. Is a lovely watch, can't wait to have it back!!

I have this link book marked just for this movement. I suppose it should apply to the 29's.

Can't find the procedure, but see if this helps.

Set the watch to 6:30 (am or pm doesn't matter).
Set the date one day back from present. (plunge the crown back to wind position then to date set to accomplish this. don't try to go from position 3 to position 2)
Now advance past midnight, to correct date/time.
Set the GMT hand where you wish for it to be. Do not push the stem into wind position after setting the GMT hand.
Pull the crown back out to time set and move it forward about 30 min, then back to the correct time. Take note if the GMT hand moved as it should.
Put crown into winding position. Give it one slow wind or two, then screw it down.
