but no matter how they do it, it's right ...

and who's to stop them from throwing a few curve-balls into their photo shots? When haven't they been misleading in details.

Printers of Maps actually include bogus and fake town names or purposely misplace items, then use these to spot the competition's copying their drawing templates.

This is all well and good until your car is running on empty and you are looking for the turnoff to NOTREALLYHEREVILLE

well said - Panerai is known for posting inaccurate missleading pictures of either prototypes or mokups on their website

Enzo, you are right about the maps though. I was travelling through Italy once, and was looking for my fathers town on the top of a mountain. On the map however there were two towns listed that were never there, after inquiring with the locals. All I can say now is thank god for GARMIN and SAT NAV.

So I was looking at the 2006 Panerai catalogue and noticed something funny...
Panerai Catalogues are inaccurate.

Sometimes they use the Prototype photos in the catalogues and the replica makers copy those prototypes only to see that the final version is different.

How can they be "innacurate"? It is their own catalog, no? Can't they do whatever they want? They pay for it. I am sure someone approved it.

They can do whatever the hell they want. Are we mad because it just makes it more confusing when it comes to proper repping? :D

Because the catalogues are finished before the first watch rolls off production. What you see in their catalogues is not what you can buy, so as references, they're inaccurate. Pretty, yes, but still inaccurate. :D

I see your point then. Makes it a little difficult for the reppers, yes. For those guys going into the AD - wonder how many turn away due to inaccuracies? :D

Plus it probably makes the inaccurate prototypes worth just a touch more. :D Big touch.

And that's why they have those disclaimers : "ACTUAL COLOR MAY VARY FROM PHOTO." or other such wordings (especially in car catalogues). But not in watch catalogues, no? :D Maybe it's time they do so.

probably just the pic. here's another one from the Panerai site (not the left hand model though) which clearly shows the text centered between 6 and the rehaut.
