201/A strap

Note that the short size is pretty short! What he calls MATTE GREY buckle is actually PVD, it's the old PANERAI lighter PVD, it sort of looks like the colour of dark TI, a 201a would probably rate the polished SS

I agree - but am so keen to have a OEM strap I'm willing to take the 'grey' [smilie=thumbsup.gif]

Also, I have seen quite a few PAVs not bunch from USD 300 - so this seems OK in relative terms.

OEM -vs- GeF etc

enzo said:
price is relative anyway. But when you pay these prices, you have to understand that the OEMs aren't really sewed all that great .. that is just the way they were. They have a hand-made quality to them that doesn't really reflect the going price.

Elliot's new GeFs look very much like these, you can see how they came from the same factory, the same 'attributes' ensue. They have the same hand-made look to them and I think the Zinc GPF type buckle is pretty cool. Can't see why it wouldn't wow a Pre-V/a

Quite agree. I really like the GeF's and as you note, they have that wonderful nexus to PAM historia.

BUT, there's just something - a frisson of cachet :D (yeah, that's bad!) - to owning something OEM. This will be my 3rd. Don't wear them too often - in fact I prefer my MPs and GeFs, but, I just like to think I can get some of that rough-sewn veracity.

Dirk himself claims that the supposed Dirks sold by Milan ain't produced by him at all.

Apparantly, these 2nd generation Dirks are not known to Dirk himself when they are coming out of Italy. Call it Dirk Reps or anything else but Dirks.

One can easily decipher an original Dirk from a Milan Dirk easily.

Compare an Original Dirk and a Milan Dirk, you'll notice that the Original Dirk straps from Circa 1999-2006 all have the same "short" stitches at where the buckle is located, whereas the Replica Dirks aka 2nd Gen Dirks have stitchings right across the strap. This production is definitely inconsistent with Dirk's trademark on the OP Logo, 5218-2 or CF Buckles offerings.

I've tried on a 2nd gen Dirk and an original Dirk and the quality is just different....

Search on Paneristi for articles pertaining to this debate....it was quite a huge debacle on this topic. Even Dirk himself showed up and refute the claims of the so-called "2nd generation Dirks".
