After many years of looking and buying I never ever had a problem with anybody on this forum.

This time it was different: I offered this
shaidx
a certain amount of money for his watch. He responded quickly with: The watch is yours.
That means: I said I will buy it and he said it is mine......on this forum it was ALWAYS enough. Next thing usually is: how do you want to pay for it....here is my email.....paid....done!!

This dude just sent me a PM saying that he sold the watch to someone else......because I did not pay within 19 hours......huh?? Give me payment instructions and I pay!

I am just wondering if my German ways of doing business: Shake hands or agree via email.....is not the way to go anymore.....oh....he is a VIP member.....maybe that makes it right.....
I am just disappointed, not about that cheap watch, but about the way this was handled by a VIP member.

i would talk to him and ask what he expected from you as far as payment--was it clear to him that you should have known where to send money and if not then why did he expect payment if he never gave the info to you. best to talk and get answers and if you are not pleased then make a post. keep us informed please

I sympathise with you mate but VIP (like it or not) does carry a certain weight.

You should consider it yourself. You've been here for five years, learned a great deal in that time so maybe should consider putting something back in.

I've run into this situation as a seller before. I am not going to offer my armchair analysis of a play by play disection of the situation, but there are ways to prevent such a thing.

It's just the way you are brought up, I guess. MY WORD is more than any written contract....but since people don't know me......well I guess I am responsible for this mishap too.....but after about 200 watches bought here......learn and go on I guess

You are not wrong! A deal should be a deal and a reasonable time for payment should be allowed.

I have had this same exact thing happen twice to me in the last two months. The last time, I made payment after just 2 hours but because I wasn't sitting on the forum hitting refresh he sold it to someone else in that short span of time. Heck, I had to drive home in traffic, feed my son dinner, and help put him to bed. Some of us do have a life outside of the computer and can't sit on the forum 24/7 waiting for PMs.

Often, when I PM a seller and say "I'll take it" I don't hear back from them until the next day.

We are all on different schedules and time zones. Sellers should be more realistic. 12 hours, if not 24 hours should be the slack time between the seller sending the 'here's my paypal address' PM, and the buyer making payment.

I've also had sellers back out of a "hand shake" PM deal because they got a better offer from someone else. Annoying as hell.

The seller may have lost track of who he replied to, and thought he gave you payment info. I can see it happening. When selling a watch, you get pm's from tons of people you never see on the forums, kinda like you lol. It's easy to lose track.

Also, 19 hours seems long to wait for both sides, you should have followed up and asked a second time. His inbox was probably going crazy from other buyers.

I'm not sure I agree about the seller losing track. A seller should only be telling one person that they are getting the watch. Everybody else should be on hold pending funds. In this case maybe 19 hours was too long to go without communication. The sellers inbox would also not fill up if they just posted a "OHPF" message in their topic.

ok now i am confused...you say you have bought 200 watches here but your feedback shows one in the last 12 months. doing the math...you been a member since may 2007 and that's 280 weeks...take away the last 52 weeks where you bought one watch and that leaves 228 weeks in which you would have had to buy close to one watch a week for that time period....either our feed back system sucks or something isn't adding up....with that kind of activity I would think I would have heard or seen your name at least ONCE...you sure it is 200 watches????

I don't think it's unreasonable that after 19hrs of no contact he sells to someone else? If someone tells they want the watch and haven't paid by the end of the day/communicated with me then i'd sell it to someone else.

A deal isn't complete until money is transferred, up to that point it's just an offer and counter offer.

PS. exactly, your word may be, however noone knows you, you have under 20 posts.. if you were a VIP with 1k+ posts i'm sure this situation would have gone differently. If you've sold a watch on here you know how many people with barely any posts will say i want your watch and then never respond. You could just be like another one of those is my point.

I also don't feel right about this. 200 watches bought on here and only 1 feedback? If you had 200 feedback, I'd sure as hell give you priority, VIP or not.
