Am I missing something? Case back openers?

Picked up my first PAM the other day from our esteemed member @hurk. Broken but not terminal…I think.

I have no intention of keeping this beast. Just want to tear it down and service it.

Because.

Then maybe I’ll sell it back to @hurk marked up a trillion percent…no, a zillion percent. Who knows? Maybe a gazillion percent!

If I can get this beast fixed, I’m going to send @hurk into poverty. I need to get this watch open. Beating @hurk into submission is way too important.

Soooo, what’s the deal with PAM case back openers? Is this like a secret fraternity mysto thing?

The one I just bought, a PAM 44, doesn’t fit the 312 case. Surprise! Not really. I searched RWI and it appears I’m just the last to find this out.

I’ve read a bunch of threads about non-fitting case back openers but it always comes down to using the Bergeron rubber ball.

Really?

Double sided tape and a plastic ruler or similar will do the trick. Stick tape to case back (the slightly spongy type). Stick ruler or flat object onto it. Twist it off.

Hey! If it works. I’m sure that’s how the ball got started. Someone tried using their dog’s slobbery fetch ball and voilà! Open case back.

It really doesn't need to be any more expensive or scientific than a wad of 3M sticky tack.

OMG!!!!!!

Hacks never work for me but this one is great. After dropping off the useless “legit” opener at Amazon, I snagged these for $3.99.

A total of 6 squares. Only needed to use one and I bet they could be quartered and work as well. Regardless, I’ve got more than enough for the foreseeable future.

On a scale of 10…this hack is a 10! Thanks.

Oh…might add, I cleaned everything first with IPA and used a stainless table knife.

Not only was this very effective, I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to remove the sticky square from the case back and knife.

Seriously, no downside.
