For your price point I would definitely take a trip over to silix-prime and have a look at what they offer. Buy one of the $110 dollar Unitas C watches, like the 111G. then head over to ebay for a nice Bob strap for around $25. I would leave the mods alone, unless you want to fix the pin and then you can just get the new hands with the cap on them (davidson has these for sale).

I you want you can get an automatic Panerai Sub. Look at Joe's review of the 199 from Jos, very nice and accurate watch. Then you can get an ebay strap for around $25.

With the manual + strap you will be out around $140 or $180(with the new hands) and with the auto + strap you would be out around $220.

Either way you will have a great watch.

what do we call the Silix-prime 111? G/H - H/G? It has the case and dial of an H with the movt of a G ... and despite all that nitpicking, it's a distinct bargain.

They offer both, but the one with the H movement is off the site right now.

weird, I won't second guess the reason you want a watch you seem to, well, dislike. (One of the things I have always liked about Panerai is that people either love or hate them, there is no grey area. They really aren't for everyone.)

I like the original vintage style ones; It's the modern uninspired ones I don't like. I'm that grey area.

A Silix-prime 111H and don't show the back side off, then you have fit your requirements - use the extra dosh to by a BOB strap to finish it off, no additional mods, ignore the recessed pin. ~$150 & shipping

I would love to have 111 again. I've sold it last year.. Welll if thats thru it only cost for $110 ..why not rite?..but must look around first....ask my heart which 1 I like the most..
