Hi all

I am pretty new to PAMs. To be honest when I started collecting watches I really didn't like the brand but my tastes have changed and recently I have become quite taken with them.
Although my PAM collection isn't that large (Modded PAM005, 359,193 and now a 249Homage) since aquiring a california dial 249 homage i have become a bit obsessed with the 3646. So I have a few questions.

I have been looking at DSN for a piece but looking at his ones the caseback isnt right. I have a request in with some members here to locate a more accurate caseback. Has anyone ever fitted a flat caseback to a dsn case set? Does it fit?
Also (longer term) I would like to source a 616/617 Movement, does anyone know if they just drop in or what the score is with retro fitting one?

Alternatively- does anyone have a good 3646 they want to part with?

Any help appreciated.

Of course HF is the best place for questions about vintage builds, but be prepared you will be blown away by the pieces they build :)

Anyway, imho you could start by looking at river's section. He makes a great 3646 case set priced fairly, you should only source dial+hands+movement to complete the build for little more money than a complete DSN's.

Cool, thanks for the advice.
Is the implication in this that dsn's is ok but not great?
I am so new to PAm I am still learning. I am just taken by these and want to start down the road.
I have seen a few lovely builds on here.

Sounds good, sourced a 616 myself but want it with a see-through caseback and brevettato engravings to be able to see it. From what I read You will need a movement holder ring from Nightwatch and those cost from $100 upward. The other point I´m having thoughts with is the crown/stem and stem length and assembly. Rest should be easy, looking for a brev ital. engraved cg. Should You stumble onto someone still doing the Rolex or Rolex/Elinvar engravings on the bridge of the 616 please shoot me a pm.

More or less like this (my 616, rest is photoshop-simulated)

and somebody elses with that movement ring

Rivers case is the place to start.

DSNs is also good, just more money.

Athaya at HF has thin and thick casebacks for both the DSN and the river case sets.

Gordon over at NightWatch has caseback aswell.

Happy building. ;)

Everything?

Yeah i kinda figured that....then again, it might be fun. I have been tinkering with some bits i can afford to lose plus some work i did on an old watch that was of huge sentimental value- I kinda figure i need to start somewhere.

I was just kidding, surely it's going to be fun!
If you can keep it simple it will be doable, at least I hope so, I'll be starting my first vintage project in a few weeks as well.
Good luck to you (and to me;))

Hey man I didn't take it badly ;-)
Good luck with yours, I think mine is probably going to be more assembly of the parts than modding
