Advice for a complete noob on the Panerai 177

Hey everybody. I've been doing some lurking, and reading, the past few days and think I might like to get myself one of the Panerai reps. In addition, I'm sick of the banner at the top of the forum advising me to make my first post. I'll warn everyone now, I know basically nothing when it comes to watches, and up until recently have been pretty satified with my regular old Wittnauer Odyssey 10 for daily wear. When it comes to movt's, authenticity of reps, etc... I only know the very limited amount i've learned here on RWI.

After searching through a bunch of threads, and pictures, I think I've decided on a 177 with the rubber strap. Panerai is nice in it's simplicity, and the darker titanium case is cool in a subdued sort of way. I'm hoping this will be a good choice, as it's my first rep purchase, and I'd hate to buy poorly because I didn't do a little research or ask the right people beforehand.

Anyway, this is the 177 I think I've decided on. hxxp://www.puretimewatch.com/product/pam177-m-11-ultimate-edition-v2-on-oem-black-rubber-strap/ To me it looks pretty damn good, but when it comes to the tiny details, I'd like to ask some of your opinions. Is this a good buy right out of the box, and is this the best place to get it? Is there a better known/ higher quality version available right now, even if it's a little more money?

So there it is... Am I about to drop some cash on a piece of junk, or will I be pleased with the 177 listed? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated, and helping out the noob is good for your karma... LOL Thanks, Dave

****PS... change the "xx" to "tt" in the posted link... not sure of the rules on linking, and don't want to offend.

I know VERY little about Pams but that is an awesome looking example.

I'm sure the Pam vets will chime in soon.

Welcome to the forum.

That is the latest version from the H factory. I've got the 176 which is the same as the 177 apart from the seconds at 9 and really like it, especially the dull titanium effect. The straps out of the box generally suck so people normally replace with an aftermarket strap but the rubber is far better than the leather if you don't want to spring for anything better.

One issue with the H factory to keep in mind is the mechanism:

* The "Officine Panerai" is silk printed rather than engraved
* It is a low beat 6497 rather than a high beat as seen in the noob factory 005 or 111

If both the points above don't really mean much to you, don't worry about it and purchase away. The dealer you listed is well known and trusted.

What would this service include? also, with the exception of the better mov't, and the extra strap, are there any other differences to note between the two regarding case/strap quality, etc...? Thanks for the suggestions...very helpful indeed.

I'm very happy with my H Factory 177M - it's not perfect but then no rep is, but it is sporty yet discreet, suitable for work or play, and it lumes like a beast, so I'm happy :D lol

Movements on the H Factory PAMs have been variable quality but go with a Trusted Dealer and you shouldn't have any issues with returning it if it's DOA like some (only a few) have been :)

I got the exact watch from Angus (puretime), just with a difference strap. Look at the pic so you may have an idea what you will be getting.
